This is truly a CRR issue. Evaluating risk, implementing intervention strategies and evaluating your program towards a desired outcome. I'm consistently amazed at the number of fire chiefs that believe CRR is solely a job for prevention staff. This is a prime example that CRR is truly the defacto Fire Service Management gold standard.

I have fallen into the trap of narrowing my focus to think of Community Risk Reduction being a prevention and public education responsibility. CRR also includes having a well trained, equipped, and prepared fire suppression workforce. That, like most of our programs in prevention, public education, and even extending to support and leadership roles like administration, management, and Human Resources, all exist for the fulfilling the same Fire service mission of protecting lives and property (community risk reduction). Having a truly community focused CRR vision in a department is what pulls a department together in accomplishing our mission to the best of our ability, for the community.
