?? Exploring New Hope for Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injuries Nova Southeastern University is pioneering an exciting new study on the effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for veterans suffering from mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and post-concussion syndrome. This phase 1 study focuses on improving cognitive and mental health for veterans—addressing issues like memory, sleep, and overall brain function. Participants undergo HBOT twice daily, 60 minutes each session, for four weeks. Researchers will assess the impact of HBOT on brain health using Brain SPECT scans, QEEG, and blood tests that analyze inflammation and mitochondrial function. Additionally, self-reported questionnaires and computer-based assessments measure changes in sleep, pain, mental health, memory, and coordination. This study could offer groundbreaking support for veterans’ long-term health and well-being. You don’t have to do it alone. The fear of needles is complex and affects most humans. There are different degrees of severity. There are physical aspects, but also emotional and psychological aspects. Many suffer with such debilitating fear that they are unable to get medical care at all. Needle phobia can indeed be deadly. You are not alone. And you don't have to do it alone.... For folks who suffer with severe needle phobia, psychological interventions have been proven to be effective. But most don’t know where to turn for help. This is why I am so proud to announce the partnership between Thimble and Therapy Lab. They have developed a five session Needle Phobia Plan to tackle this problem specifically. It includes psychoeducation, guided relaxation, exposure therapy, and virtual reality to reduce fear. Combined with our patent-pending patches, we are able to offer a true multi-modal approach to empower people to get the health care they need. There is a lesson here in entrepreneurship as well. Entrepreneurship is not about competition. It is about solving problems. And to solve problems, we must work together. I am so grateful to be colloborating with this star of a friend and founder, Chandler Sims Chang, Ph.D. You don't have to do it alone. #stickwithcompassion

Recent insights from #BrainSee sessions after witnessing almost 100 clinical visits: There are three types of patients: Type 1) Too reliant on their own brain at the cost of losing perspective and trust in others. Their viewpoint: Everything is under my control. I (and all people) always have a choice. Everything in my life is the direct result of my own decisions. I'm the center of my universe. I'm the captain of my ship. I can do everything myself. I can even heal myself. [well, ... Too much of 'I']. These patients are often too hard on themselves and others without realizing it. They expect too much from their limited brain capacity and are full of questions and hesitations about science, medicine, doctors, and drugs. They are willing to try everything and anything offered in the wellness world to empower themselves even more [wellness companies know that too!]. Type 2) Too reliant on others at the cost of losing perspective and trust in themselves. Their viewpoint: Nothing is under my control. Nobody has a choice. Everything is made for me and dictated to me by genetics, family, school, environment, society, work, and the world. Everything happened to me without my will, desire, or decisions mattering at all. I can't do anything to help myself. Give me a pill to do the work for me. Science, medicine, doctors, and drugs: please help me. These patients are willing to try everything and anything offered in the pharma world to treat their condition [pharma companies know that too!]. Type 3) In-between (right dose of control and letting go). Inside their minds: My life is a sum of things that are under my control (I'm happy to help), and things that are not (please help me). These patients get the most out of both the medical and wellness worlds. Why? Because they actually focus on the problem itself, not on themselves or others. My ask: If you have family or friends who are suffering from memory problems, amnesia, or MCI and they fit into type 1 or 2 above, try to encourage them to become more like type 3 before it's too late. The more in-between, the more balanced their life, and the more help they receive from both inside and outside worlds when needed.

My life changed because of one thing I said, to one doctor. And the only reason I said it was because he was creative in his care. I had been to countless doctors, but I could tell this experience was different from the start. Here's just one example of how the experience was different: After listing the tests he wanted to order, he asked if there was anything I thought was missing. He wanted to validate every thought I had and didn’t want me to leave wondering about any what-ifs. As I was about to get up to leave, I thought of something seemingly random. I would have never said it if he hadn’t been so encouraging of any and all ideas of mine. But I turned around and went to sit back down with him. I told him about something that had happened and how other doctors had dismissed it. I saw a lightbulb go off in his head. He told me he wanted to order 1 more test. To make an already long story short. That test came back positive, and that started me on the still lengthy journey of being diagnosed with a condition, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. One condition that explained every little experience I have had since I was a baby. Just like I had previously thought when I went to see my pediatrician, who said, "Don't kid yourself, Jenna; you'll never find an answer that explains everything." For 18 years, the things that no one could figure out and puzzled every person and every provider. I had figured it out. But I had almost never brought it up again after being shut down. The day this all started, the day that the doctor ordered one more test, was my first “amazing” health care experience. Now I know that that “amazing” was really “creative”. Bringing creativity into the way we deliver healthcare allows providers to find new ways to connect with their patients, understand their experiences, and tailor the way they communicate with them. #healthcare #healthcareonlinkedin #creativity

https://lnkd.in/dhFbFEA There is no current treatment for Misophonia. While this can be hard for sufferers to hear, this doesn’t mean that there’s no hope for Misophonia. The #Misophonia and Emotion Regulation program at Duke University, made the following statement on Misophonia treatment: There are no single specific behavioral or device-based treatments that have been rigorously tested scientifically across multiple studies and … shown to treat Misophonia. At this point, there only are early small scale uncontrolled and pilot controlled clinical studies. In addition, there are unstudied approaches used by clinicians. Without being subjected to research, it is not possible to know whether unstudied treatments can be expected to help.” – https://lnkd.in/ezcDNFav While there is no treatment for Misophonia, you can still use coping techniques to help cope. Several resources exist to help aid you. The [Read More] https://lnkd.in/eEE7z-4H #misophoniamatters

Patient:what on earth is this person saying? been there. ?? I’ve been thinking a lot about how we talk to our patients. You know, those moments when we throw around fancy terms, and they just nod along, probably thinking, “ But here’s the thing: most patients come in feeling scared or confused. They don’t want a lecture; they want someone to understand them. And honestly, who wouldn’t? Imagine going to see a healthcare professional and leaving with more questions than answers—no thanks! ??♂? ?? Here’s what I’ve learned: 1?? Patients don’t need a science lesson. They need reassurance. 2?? It’s less about “education” and more about having a real conversation. Let me share a little story. The other day, I was working with a patient who had back pain. The biggest thing on their mind wasn’t some complex medical issue. Nope, it was, “Can I still dance at my sister’s wedding?” Lol, seriously! We spent 30 minutes talking, and that was their main concern. And guess what? That’s totally fine because it mattered to them. Here’s how I approach it now: ? Keep it simple: Forget all the jargon. I tell them, “Yes, you can dance. Just listen to your body.” It’s that easy. ? Listen first, talk later: If we’re too busy throwing info at them, we miss the part where we actually help. ? Make it personal: Every patient is different, so don’t just hand out cookie-cutter advice. Tailor it to their needs and lifestyle. There’s research out there that says patient education (done right) is just as effective as some physical treatments. ?? And it’s true! When people feel heard and understand their situation, they’re way more likely to take control of their health. So, next time you’re working with someone, remember: it’s not about impressing them with big words. It’s about connecting with them on a real level. ?? Your turn! What’s one thing you’ve noticed about how patients respond when you take the time to just talk with them? Drop your thoughts below, I’d love to hear! ?? #Healthcare #PatientEducation #BackPain #physiotherapy #medicine #physio #doctor

As we continue my 11 days of gratitude, today I’m reflecting on the essential but often unseen role we play in patient care. That’s?Reason #9: Day 9: Making a Difference Behind the Scenes While neurodiagnostics may not always be in the spotlight, the impact we make is undeniable. Much of the work we do is behind the scenes, but it is critical to the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of patients. The EEGs we perform provide vital insights that help guide physicians in their decision-making. Whether we’re identifying seizure activity, monitoring brain function, or providing real-time data, our contributions are the foundation on which clinical teams make informed, life-changing decisions. I’m proud of the fact that we make a difference—even when we’re not the ones taking center stage. Knowing that our work is pivotal to patients’ outcomes gives me a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose every day. How have you seen behind-the-scenes work have a big impact in your field? Share your thoughts or stories in the comments—I’d love to hear them! #Gratitude #Neurodiagnostics #EEG #BehindTheScenes #PatientCare #Impact #EpilepsyCare #Leadership #Thanksgiving #Epilepsy #MayoClinic #ABRET #ASET
