Punk Art History by Marie Arleth Skov is the next 2024 top seller we are sharing this festive season. The punk movement of the 1970s to early 1980s is examined as an art movement through archive research, interviews, and art historical analysis. It is about pop, pain, poetry, presence, and about a ‘no future’ generation refusing to be the next artworld avant-garde, instead choosing to be the ‘rear-guard’. If there is someone who knows a thing or two about writing a book on arts management, it’s Ellen Rosewall. Her book, “Arts Management: Uniting Arts and Audiences in the 21st Century,” is a cornerstone text in the field (and also one of the only books I tell my students to buy, not rent). To see such a positive review for “Rural Arts Management” from such an authoritative source in the American Journal of Arts Management is an honor, and it validates both the years of work Elise Kieffer, PhD and I put into our book and the necessity of such a text. https://lnkd.in/e3EAgp73

Grateful to be able to spend my days immersed in thoughtful conversations around questions such as: Is creation meaningful, and if it is, is its meaning intelligible? How does the experience of the medium shape the reception of the content? What can we learn about reality from the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien and the music of Arvo P?rt?and the paintings of Makoto Fujimura? Is there such a thing as a theology of the imagination? What is the price of modern rootlessness? To this last question, this Anthology on "Place, Community, and Memory" is essential listening. https://lnkd.in/es6d3_bY

Issue 10 of 'Burlington Contemporary Journal' is now live and free to read. ? It includes an artist commission by Catherine Yass and seven peer-reviewed articles presenting new academic research on contemporary art. In the most wide-ranging issue yet, articles are connected by disruption: they challenge Western art-historical narratives, upend disciplinary and genre classifications and break through temporal barriers to reformulate the links between past and present.? ? https://bit.ly/BCJ_10

This is out (and I'm gladly in): What is an institute for NightCulture? In Archis' latest publication, 170 voices from the worlds of contemporary nightlife, art, and culture come together to answer this question. Their diverse perspectives create a kaleidoscopic collection of ideas that collectively shape the vision for a future Institute for NightCulture (INC Foundation). This book sets the stage for what such an institute could become.
