We actually groaned, ourselves, when I read was the opening sentence of a recent article by Wine Searcher. "The warehouses of US distributors are groaning under the weight of their backed-up inventories." Reading on it became an article of the "blame game." - Too many imports in the market - Neo-Prohibitionist movement - Smaller wholesalers going out of business - Chains focusing on private label - Retailers stocking fewer wines - World Health Organization stating that no alcohol is healthy - Gen Z's lack of interest While this list is factual and true. It also begins to have a stink of "the dog ate my homework." Is everyone slinging blame at each other? Because....there will be suppliers, distributors and agencies who emerge because they are resilient, action oriented and innovatively thinking about what's coming next, while everyone else is hollering loudly... Would you like your teams to be in the resilient group? At our upcoming invitation-only Executive Forum, Newborn Evolution will be sharing three strategies to help your teams, partners and customers to remain resilient, confident and able to navigate through this uncertain and unstable landscape. Join us on Friday, July 26th, at 11:00am ET for a robust virtual discussion on this topic. Why you should consider joining the conversation: -Our Executive Forums are exclusive and by invitation only -We will be sharing expert insights during the forum from decades of experience in the Beer, Wine & Spirits Industries -You will have the opportunity to have real-time conversations with high- level leaders like yourself, in the Alcohol -Beverage Industry who are facing similar challenges -This is a great opportunity to expand your network leadership skills -All attendees will receive a high-level recap of the most pertinent key take-aways If you would like to request an invitation for yourself or someone at your organization who may be interested please email us at [email protected] and say “July 26th Executive Forum” and we will send you details. Saturday's Vodka evening! If potatoes can become Vodka, you too can be anything you want to be. In order to make world class Vodka fermentation and distillation of potatoes is a very important process. We in our life also undergo this fermentation and distillation. The problem is during our fermentation we resist and fail to change unlike potatoes which eventually become Vodka. When things are being fermented in life we are crushed and we are made to convert our present nature to get into something more finer and that can take the spirit of people higher. We resist this change process and miss the transformation. Be ready to get crushed. Be ready to ferment. Be ready to change. Be ready to be distilled so that you too can eventually take people higher in spirit. Note: Had I been drinking the post would have more insights! #spirit #higher #liquor #change #leadership #transformation #weekend #success

Wine has been central to Italian culture and community for ages –?it's a fundamental part of celebrations, ceremonies and a symbol of hospitality. I was exposed to winemaking way before I was old enough to drink it. As I grew older, what struck me about winemaking, besides the formidable bonds forged with family and friends, was that making something drinkable out of a pile of non-sterile grapes is not unlike running a business. You don't get quick feedback when you try something different.?Much like blending varieties and flavours, the lessons of what to do differently, or what not to do, are not immediately evident but they help dictate whether to pivot or stay the course. Results are influenced by a confluence of external, environmental factors and DNA. Just like soil and weather impact the wine's flavour, a company's capacity to put the right people in the right place and cultivate a strong culture is crucial to success. The journey from grape to bottle or start-up to maturity, is a process of transformation and enrichment. The ability to share and bond with good friends and family is akin to creating value for those you serve and the communities you operate in. Here's to winemaking and cultivating strong communities! #leadership #culture #community #leadershipdevelopment

In our previous Veteran Wisdom post, Felton Jones, Chief Roastmaster at Ballard Brands, offered his expert insights on the coffee landscape. Now, in part two of this Q&A series, Felton takes us deeper into changes over the past decade and their impact on the future of coffee. Q: What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in coffee over the past decade, and do you see this continuing? A: I think that growth in consumption is creating a wider spectrum of what is deemed as quality. While consumers enjoy the benefits of quality and stories to be told about their coffee selections, they will never ignore cost. Today's economy makes that even more of a priority and challenges roasters to do what we are trained to do and that is make the magic happen in the drum. Q: Is there anything you would like to shine a light on with the Next Generation of coffee professionals? A: The industry has a tremendous challenge that needs to be conquered, and that is exposure. I have felt for some time now that we are lacking in the area of recruitment. I am amazed by my 30-year tenure but also concerned about our ability to attract interest from our youth in all areas of the industry. We are more than roasters and coffee shops. Thanks again Felton, for sharing your guidance and experience with us! Stayed tuned for more insights from other veterans and professionals in the coffee industry! #NationalCoffeeAssociation #NCA #NextGen #coffee #VeteranWisdom #CoffeeWisdom # #CoffeeEducation #FarmToCup #Trends

?? it’s Thursday, time to bang on about beer + connect it to leadership: This weekend I was able to go back to one of my favourite local breweries. But what to have from their varied menu? I know what I like (Red); the ESB was great last time; ooh a new stout - that’s in. Last choice: a new black + tan. That’s me exploring. Within very clear parameters: malt>hops; no fruit; no sours; nothing ‘not worth experimenting on’ i.e. lager. I did have a little sip of the chocolate + strawberries stout - confirmed what I knew: not for me. Am I stuck in my ways or know what I like and don’t like? Building on last week’s theme of resistance, how does this apply to staff? Perhaps resistance is knowledge? How then to effect necessary change? Like my move from hoppy IPAs to darks, perhaps it’s through adjacent possibilities. I didn’t leap to dark malties. I got curious about what else - and a bit tired of the hop bombs. That and the availability of alternatives allowed me to explore, experiment and then decide. When leaders need to realign the strategy, innovate, improve, be more efficient or just learn, how can we better invite staff along? Allow them to choose the adjacent possibilities for themselves? Cheers ?? #whataboutthebeer #choice #adjacentpossibilities #wenthomewiththestout

Our CEO, Joanne Newborn just returned from Portugal, taking a tour of the Douro Valley and visiting a few incredible wineries. The messaging was the same, as I’ve heard from other countries, “We have too much wine, because people aren’t buying and drinking as much.” In fact, although 2024 was an incredible year for the grapes, many vineyards were deciding not to harvest all of them, and just let them die on the vine.? It is heartbreaking for someone who spent decades in the Wine & Spirits business. Why is this important? While the story is sad, it isn’t going to help to sell more. Yet data will help tell stories that are “win” for on & off premise accounts, and knowing HOW to use the data and WHAT to do with it, is what makes data so powerful. At our upcoming invitation-only Executive Forum we are sharing some ways to do this.?We recently sponsored WSWA’s Women’s Leadership Council Conference and we will be sharing some key insights, data, and 2025 predictions from the conference, and specifically? from VIP and Sip Source that will help you and your teams to see how to use this information to take action in Q4 2024 and set up your Q1 2025 for success. Join us on Friday, October 25, 12:00 noon ET for a conversation around “Data-Driven Success: Empowering Wine & Spirits Suppliers & Distributors to Dominate Q4 2024 & Lead Q1 2025." Why you should consider joining the conversation: -Our Executive Forums are exclusive and by invitation only? -We will be sharing expert insights during the forum from decades of experience in the Beer, Wine & Spirits Industries -You will have the opportunity to have real-time conversations with high- level leaders like yourself, in the Alcohol -Beverage Industry who are facing similar challenges -This is a great opportunity to expand your network leadership skills -All attendees will receive a high-level recap of the most pertinent key take-aways If you would like to request an invitation for yourself or someone at your organization who may be interested please email us at [email protected] and say “October Executive Forum” and we will send you details. CHANGE COMES WITH DISRUPTION Whether planned or emergent, but do not let it be a distraction. The people who get the best out of the process are those who turn the disruption into opportunities. When the grape goes through the crushing, it knows it will never be a grape again; but the price is worth what it becomes-wine. The challenge of organisational change is to turn the crushing of the grape into wine…resilience is not a bad word. Let the grape go, find the wine! #organistationalchange #performance #changemanagement
