“Together, the J-WAFS Solutions program and MIT’s I&E ecosystem demonstrate how academic research can evolve into business innovations that make a better world,” says J-WAFS Director Professor John Lienhard. MIT's labs, classrooms, and centers are a hub for innovative solutions to pressing global challenges. These innovations often transition to the commercial realm through MIT's innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) ecosystem, which includes programs like the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s NE I-Corps, MIT Venture Mentoring Service, and MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition. J-WAFS utilizes this ecosystem to help researchers commercialize technologies in water, food, and agriculture through its Solutions grant program. Since 2015, the program has funded projects aimed at enhancing water and food systems, driving economic, environmental, and social benefits. As J-WAFS approaches its 10th anniversary, it continues to promote collaborations that translate academic research into real-world results.
