In memory | Becca Sue Klein Our beloved colleague and dear friend Becca Sue Klein passed away peacefully this Tuesday morning. We extend our sincere condolences to Becca's family and friends during this difficult time. Becca was a leader in the Waterkeeper movement for two decades and a pillar of the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper team. She joined CRK as development director before becoming our first-ever planned giving officer, working to ensure the legacy of our donors and secure the future of the Chattahoochee River for generations to come. Becca was a passionate fly angler and often talked about the sense of peace and serenity she gained from spending time on the river. In 2019, she founded the Becca Sue Klein All Kids Fish program to teach young people of all backgrounds about the joys of fly fishing and the importance of river conservation. To date, Becca’s program has inspired hundreds of kids throughout the region. Becca left her mark on many people through her nonprofit and volunteer work. In addition to empowering youth, Becca was a member of Georgia Women Fly Fishing and the founder of the Reeling in Serenity program in Atlanta. Becca’s creativity, passion, and fun-loving spirit made her one-in-a-million. We are blessed to have known and loved her. We thank everyone who supported Becca and her work. May her legacy live on in the many hearts touched by her warmth and light. ??

There was a point, I guess it was in 2018, where I saw some issues in my community. That I wanted to address. One being getting young women out on the water. Every time I go to the river I'd see dads and their sons. And I had that sense of peace with my personal experience. I wanted to share it with young women too. So I reached out to Gin Ripple with Gun Magazine and Heather Hodson with United Women on the Family and said. Hey I have this idea. What do you think? And they jumped in with both feet. So we hosted the first ever all Girls a fish up at Unicoi and Helen. And again, an incredible day. I still get messages from those young ladies to this day that telling me how much that experience changed their lives. Little Deegan, she had picked up a fly rod and she was doing it with her father and. You know, she, she wasn't being introduced to other girls who were involved with fly fishing or like to go out on the water and fish. So she came all the way from Texas to that all girls fish event. And left it a changed little girl. She had such a positive experience, not only like getting out of her shell with the adults and the guides, but also interacting with the other youth there. So to be able to make that impact in the lives of others is what keeps me going, is what keeps me coming back time and time again to the river. So I find myself here today wanting to leave my legacy, for lack of better words. You know, I don't have money to leave to nonprofit. You know, I don't. I'm only 38 years old. I've just started my life. Edge getting a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, you know, I really wanted there to be something for when I am gone for my parents and my colleagues and all of the incredible people in the five fishing community to look back on and say, you know what? Becca made a difference. Becca made a difference in my life. And I can say that and know that and know that that's going to be there. And that brings me so much peace, knowing that. I have impacted the lives of others.

Just now learning this news. So saddened to hear this. Becca was, among many other things, a fighter. I'll never forget her unbridled passion for her work, and the way she worked tirelessly to maintain CRK's financial strength through the power of partnerships and giving. Her efforts to engage young Georgians through fly fishing came after my time there, but makes all the sense in the world. From starting the organization's first planned giving efforts, to this fly fishing initiative, Becca always seemed focused on the future. My condolences to the CRK family, and Becca's.
