We are excited at year’s end to highlight the Contra Costa County Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) program. Our staff teaches a variety of instructional classes there, and sixteen of the?instructors are current or former employees, including four who joined the ranks in 2024. JATC instructors prepare and administer curriculum for all five years of the Apprenticeship Program, covering everything from conduit bending and fabrication, to motor control, instrumentation, OSHA standards, and more. Travis Clay and Melissa Vaughn, JATC instructors and full-time Contra Costa Electric employees, say the training center experience as both a student and instructor has been irreplaceable. “You become your own ambassador,” Clay said,?“to make your career what you want it to be.” "This is not education for some far away, possible future career," added Vaughn. “They need this knowledge and these skills now, for the career they are in the process of building." To become a JATC instructor, you must complete an approved electrical apprenticeship and be an IBEW Local 302 member with Inside Journeyman Wireman status. ?To learn more about the apprenticeship or how to become a JATC instructor, contact IBEW Training Director Ray Green at?rayg@ibewlu302.com. #EMCOR #Apprenticeship #Journeymen #Training #CareersInConstruction?

Debate: I'm interested to know your thoughts. We have been sucessfully running the Maritime Defence Engineering technician apprenticeship for many years. I chose this course as it met the Martime Maintenance requirements of pleasure and commercial customers. Now the government has pulled many marine apprenticeship standards including mine for new customers and in my professional opinion the one they have reccomended is not even close nor fit for purpose. My questions are, why have they pulled so many standards, why are there such a minimal amount of options for the Marine industry and why is our industry not being considdered by those making these changes? I believe i'm left with 2 options, neither are fitting, competence has been removed and whatever i am left with, it means hundreds of hours building and planning, time i quite simply dont have. Trailblazers have not consulted with training providers or customers. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Our industry has so many skills gaps, so many training jobs on offer for young apprentices but we are left with minimal options to carry out that training. Today Andrew Eldred and Jane Dawson met Lee Barron MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire, to discuss ECA's Electrical Skills Index. Of the 71 learners who started on electrical courses in Corby, only 19 progressed to an electrical apprenticeship. The electrical skills crisis is real, but solvable. #SkillsfortheFuture

This is certainly reflective of the North East market for sure. A lack of qualified electrical/multi skilled apprentice trained candidates are coming through twinned with misaligned salaries and expectations. Finding the right people is increasingly becoming more and more challenging and the demand for talent, even more competitive. If you aren't or can't present a 'competitive' offering to attract candidates, you will likely be missing out on the best people. For support on finding and attracting the best people to your business, why not reach out for a conversation. It's not always about salary, its often about presenting an opportunity that candidates are attracted to. Jackson Hogg can help with that! andrew.lockey@jacksonhogg.com / 07446156521 #jacksonhogg #maintenance #apprenticeships #apprentice #electricians #electrical #northeastjobs
