One of my favorite parts of sharing my life with a dog is the way it seems to open the world around me. When you spend two hours a day out walking, you can't help but get to know the places around you in a different way. You get to know "the regulars" - other dog walkers on the same schedule, school crossing guards, local business owners and employees. You may not ever know each other's names, but you smile and wave and say, "Good morning." There is the sense of felt connection, of community, that is so often lost in city living (particularly for someone as deeply introverted as myself). I know the two grocery store employees who sit outside the 7-11 drinking their coffee at 5:30am before they start their shift; the crossing guard and the city trash collector who adore Bingley and call out to him from a block away; all the staff in the coffee shop, the steakhouse, and the liquor store who hand out dog treats; the dog parents of Bingley's favorite friends up and down my street. Those tiny moments of connection, of recognizing a fellow human and being recognized by them, remind us that yes, we are in fact here. We are a part of this neighborhood, this city, this community, this world. We are not alone. The more I stop to notice, appreciate, and even court those moments of connection, I can feel myself becoming more woven into the fabric of the neighborhood. It reminds me that belonging doesn't just happen; it is built, over time and with effort (in my case, the effort of walking a pup five miles a day in all conditions). And the good news is, once you know, or re-learn as the case may be, how to craft that belonging, you take that skill with you. You realize that sense of connection can be built anywhere—even on online platforms like this one. It's within all our power to become more at home with the world, wherever we are. It may start small, with our own building or street or neighborhood, but belonging builds momentum as it grows. One we start to find it, we crave more of it. We extend our efforts, reach out more, become one of "the regulars" who welcomes the new faces. This is how community grows, and how we welcome one another into the world around us. What's going to save us is remembering that we belong: to our places, yes, but also to one another. That’s been one of my greatest pleasures as I’ve grown here on LI—discovering how wide and warm and welcoming the writing community is here. How it centers community and connection over competition. How we lift each other up, knowing and trusting that there’s space for all. So if you’re a “regular” here on my posts, I’m so grateful to you. If you’re new here, welcome! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I help dreamers and doers find their story and tell it well.

Want to improve your corporate recruiting? Get a birdfeeder! ??Let me explain... Recruiting is like trying to attract more birds into your backyard. There's a couple different ways you can do this. The first is to buy birds from a pet shop. I love this idea, since as a recruiter, I'm the pet shop. I've got a lot of cool birds and I'm happy to deliver them to you for a search fee! ?? ?? But another way to attract more birds is to showcase why your yard is the best yard on the block. Get a birdfeeder. Throw some seeds in that thing, and I mean GOOD seeds. Get a birdbath too, and keep the water clean and sparkly. In other words, create a bird-friendly environment and they'll start to notice. They'll start to tell their bird buddies. And pretty soon, your backyard will look like a sanctuary, filled with all kinds of unique and diverse birds that are happy to come to your backyard every day. ???????????? So what is the birdfeeder in this scenario? What's the birdbath? The answer is Social Media. Leveraging social media is one of the best and cheapest ways to attract candidates to come work for you. Now, obviously your birdfeeder needs to be filled with good seeds (salary) and your birdbath needs to have good water (benefits, etc.). But if you're not showcasing those in a fantastic-looking birdfeeder and birdbath, the birds might not ever see it. Social media recruiting is one of the best ways you can showcase your company as a great place to work. It'll bring in the birds from far and wide, and the word will spread until every bird in the city is tweeting about how great your yard is. And those birds that you bought from me? They'll stick around as well... ???? #socialmedia #socialrecruiting #corporaterecruiting #itjobs #ITrecruiting #TechnologyRecruiting #Dallasjobs #dfwjobs #recruiting #staffing #jobmarket #SocialMediaRecruiting #Austinjobs #AustinRecruiting #DallasRecruiting #DFWRecruiting

What's the most unique job you've done? This is a conversation we continually have with our son, who is highly motivated to earn money: Sometimes, you can't wait for the job that is the perfect fit; You just need to do the job to earn the money. Okay, so I'll go first: The most unique job I've ever done is corn detasseling. ?? What in the world is that, you ask? It's the process of removing the tassel from the top of the cornstalk to prevent it from pollinating itself. If you grew up in Iowa like I did, chances are good that you've detasseled corn at some point. ?? I didn't grow up in the country, but even the city kids took on a job like this because the pay was fantastic. It was a grueling few weeks of summer heat and monotonous work, but the paycheck made it all worth it. Help this mom out so I can share with him: What's the most unique job you've done, and how old were you when you did it? #uniquejobs #workethic #raisingkids #earningmoney

10 things about Kim: 1. Earliest childhood memory? - Sitting with my papa under a pecan tree, picking peanuts off of some plants that had been dug up. I was probably three at the time. 2. Favorite childhood nickname? How did you get it? - KimBob. On a high school beta club convention trip to Atlanta, several of my friends and I chowed down on Bob's peppermint sticks. We ended up adding Bob to several names. 3. Is it easy for you to accept help from people? - No! I feel like I am a burden to others when I need help. 4. How do you hope people describe you? - I want to be known as a kind, trustworthy, and helpful person. 5. Where do you go for inspiration? - Pinterest 6. What is the worst song? - "What Does the Fox Say?" 7. Do you have any pets? - 3 dogs (and 4 kids ??) 8. Do you have a morning routine? - Yes! I let the dogs out to potty and eat a bowl of cereal before everyone else gets out of bed. 9. What is something you would tell your younger self? - Take the dang pictures! 10. City or country? - Definitely country. * * * * * #gettoknowme #gettoknowmechallenge #gettoknowmebetter #employeespotlight #employeeappreciation #employee #brighamcity #brighamcityutah #brighamcityut #brighamcitymainstreet #northernutah #northernutahhomes #northernutahrealestate #utahgram #utahhomes #utahisrad #utahcounty #utahrealtor #utahrealestate #boxeldercounty #realtor #farmhouse #farmhouserealty

Canvasing here to get a sense of the level of interest and looking for feedback on the following idea. While I continue my job search it’s clear to me that currently there are only so many new positions being posted that I may be a fit for and there are only so many times I can re-edit my resume and showreel, and although there are more chores and projects I can do at home, I’ve been thinking more and more about the challenges of the current job market and that it takes a village. So, I’m wondering if there are opportunities for me to help other job seekers on their journey to the next adventure and if there are other folks who feel the same way and would be interested in offering some of their skills and time to the community in a similar way? Given that in this market feedback is rare and candidate ghosting is common maybe we as a community can fill the gap for each other? My initial idea is to volunteer say 2 or 3 hours a day as a fresh set of eyes to review showreels and portfolios for folks who would be interested in some constructive feedback that would help refine the materials they are submitting to potential employers. The feedback can be written or we can jump into a call/meeting to discuss in real-time. Once you've checked out my profile, if there are other ways you think I might be able to help you don’t be too shy to ask. I am not seeking payment of any kind, my time is being offered purely on a volunteer basis, but if my help is considered valuable, I would recommend you donate to your favorite animal rescue group. I know many folks are low on cash, so it would ok to donate once you have started a new job. What’s in it for me? Simply put, it would be an opportunity for me to help the wonderful computer graphics community I am blessed to be part of and also help animal rescue groups who do such amazing work. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea and whether you or anyone you know might be interested in participating. It’s ok to send me requests via DM, but let’s try to keep the feedback and discussion in the responses to this post. Hope you’re all having an awesome day. Neighbor’s? Neighbors make their communities a better place to live. They help each other out, and they respect each other's space. They make their neighborhoods safe and fun. Here are some tips: 1???Introduce yourself and say hello. ???You can also give them a small gift, like a plate of cookies ???or a plant. 2???Keep your property looking nice. Mow your lawn, ???trim your hedges, and keep your porch clean. This will help keep everyone’s property values up. 3???If you live in a condo, keep the noise down. ???If your neighbor goes on vacation offer to pick up their mail, water their plants, etc... ?? 4???Be respectful of your neighbors and pick up your pet's poop. Don't let your pet run around loose. ?? 5???If you see your neighbors struggling with something, offer to help. You could help them carry groceries, ???shovel their driveway, or just listen to them talk. 6???Get to know your neighbors. Plan a block party or a potluck dinner to get to know your neighbors. ?? You could also join a neighborhood club or group. The effort it takes to be a good neighbor is worth it! When you're a good neighbor, you're making your community a better place for everyone!

POV: You work as a DOG NANNY in NYC… I’m on a mission to build the world’s longest resume. Here are the things I learned while working as a Dog Nanny for a day: 1. A Dog (or any pet) Nanny is not the same as a dog walker; it’s much more. While schedules vary based on clients' needs, the nanny typically becomes the primary provider during their hours. Responsibilities can include walking, feeding, scheduling/bringing the dogs to their vet appointments, and more. 2. Shockingly, Brittney and the dogs walk an average of 10 miles per day! While this statistic varies for everyone, it highlights working in NYC where inside space is limited. When asked why she walks the dogs so much, Brittney replied, “This is the best way I can honor them. I just want to give them the best possible life they can have while they’re with me.” 3. It’s a hard business to scale. During my time with Brittney, she expressed that there is a limit to how many dogs she can handle per day before it becomes too much. She says it’s a nuanced balance between honoring existing long-term clients and onboarding new ones at a higher rate. #career #salary #petnanny #dogs #puppies
