Proso millet is our January millet-of-the-month again this year. It's the "millet" grown for grain at scale in North America, and is getting more attention as a water-efficient crop. Its place in the food cultures of this region is still rather limited, but it is often part of multigrain products. Here are links to two items about proso. The first is a survey article with much interesting and useful detail, and the second, a webpage overview just published, which evidently draws on earlier sources): * Das, Saurav, Rituraj Khound, Meenakshi Santra, and Dipak K. Santra. 2019. "Beyond Bird Feed: Proso Millet for Human Health and Environment" Agriculture 9(3): No. 64. https://lnkd.in/gVrdsjXC? * "Proso Millet Benefits and Side Effects: The Ultimate Guide," Yummy Valley, 30 January 2024. https://lnkd.in/gBfpQ5Ey (some claims re benefits & side-effects should be treated with caution - see in comments to this posting, below) #prosomillet #milletofthemonth The salad image on the right, below, is from https://lnkd.in/giVxv8Zu

QUESTIONS TO OUR CEO KARL VILHELM BECKMAN: HOW IS THE HARVEST GOING? – So far, the year has presented several challenges. Early harvest, late sowing (the last field on Saturday, June 29) a week later than planned due to rain. Peas of good quality but lower yield levels than expected, so far. The operations and staff are functioning very well after a break-in period, and we have good capacity both in the field and the factory. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE PEA SEASON 2024? – In summary, this could be an exciting year as there are still about 65 harvesting days left due to the late sowing. If we could decide, it would be a "normal Swedish summer" until the beginning of August, followed by a dry warm period until mid-September. Perfect conditions for the peas! But we all know that the weather decides everything. HOW MUCH HAVE YOU HARVESTED SO FAR? – So far, we have harvested 2,100 tons of peas, of which 2,000 tons are of the better qualities (EF/A/AA/AAA), which we should be very happy about. We look forward to a great season together with all of you. Are you a buyer interested in our green peas as they are harvested? Don't hesitate to contact us at https://lnkd.in/dVUx97_g
