I am most proud of the jobs and opportunities created from company expansions and projects. Good jobs and career opportunities benefit individuals, families, companies, and communities. It’s rewarding to know that because of my efforts, someone has a better job and economic future. How has economic development changed since you entered the field? Economic development has changed for the better from a little-known field with few tools to an industry that offers numerous resources in education, training, tech tools, leadership, and problem-solving. Once a male-dominated field, it's exciting to see more women and diversity throughout the industry. What is your favorite characteristic of your community or region? Why? Delaware's diversity is what I treasure most about our state. Industry diversity, from financial services, life sciences, advanced chemistry, and manufacturing to agriculture, makes Delaware an ideal location for many projects. Our diverse communities, leadership, and talent pool drive these industries and make Delaware a successful place to do business. What led you to economic development? What’s kept you here? I love helping people and companies succeed. Even with large companies, it comes down to the individuals that benefit from my community winning a project or expansion. Economic development is an exciting profession that is always changing and evolving. No two days are ever the same. What is your economic development superpower? Listening. I focus on listening to prospects and site selectors to understand what factors are important in their location decision. Companies want to know that you understand their project and priorities. Welcome to the third in this exciting series of seven. Time really does fly. I can't believe I'm almost halfway through the journey that I've been I've been taking you on. Today I'm going to talk about a Purple Cow. I had an idea that I wanted at some stage in my career to build the Purple Cow. And four years ago, I was presented with a heaven sent opportunity to do so. Today I'm going to share with you basically the thinking behind the business model that we've got, and how we drew down on concepts that have been espoused by one of my intellectual heroes, Seth Godin to produce something that by nature is remarkable. So our journey so far, has really been starting out with a discussion of how the world is changing, how we're no longer in industrial era, we're moving into the Connection Economy. When you move into a Connection Economy everything changes, everything is disrupted. Because of the nature of connections, and human psychology, we are always looking for opportunities to have relationships, and to extend ourselves. Consequently, the Connection Economy affords all kinds of new opportunities around that very dynamic given that the means to connect now are all in place. And there's nothing to preclude you from connecting with any single person, anywhere on the planet at any time of the day or night. So the Connection Economy changed everything. Then we talked about the role of developing an expertise in the context of the Connection Economy. Having that expertise, identifying a niche in the particular constituency that your expert niche operates in. When you do that, you organize a scenario through the publication of content that speaks to your expertise and fills the vacuum avoided information that isn't available anywhere else. Consequently, the audience of people that have an interest in your subject matter will organize themselves around you because they have nowhere else to go to find that information. So that's the importance of a having an expertise and manifesting that expertise through publishing activities via the internet. #innovation #immigrationinnovation #intelligentcontentmarketing
