Only 20-30% of small business owners have a successful exit. The Great Wealth Transfer (est $84tn) is coming and I'm unshakably convinced that Ambitious Founders who work with Advisors to help them intentionally prepare for transition/exit will win. I had the opportunity to be a guest on Growth-Drive's Business Advisor Hot Seat Podcast where George Sandmann and I discussed how Advisors + Business Operating Systems are making an impact for Owners that want to have a successful exit. What I learned from George is: "the magic is in the doing". You have to go beyond planning and strategy. You have to be a doer. Your organization has to be full of doers executing consistently. But, for Owners, changing the way they may be doing things for decades can be daunting. However, its often necessary to have the exit or transition they want. Exit planning is a process. And the best time to start...is now. Link to our conversation in the comments.

Capital requirements are changing SO fast - most never need to raise ?? Way too many founders get caught in the 'Lemming' follow the crowd. We convince ourselves that we need capital, but most of the time: - Capital makes them sloppy - Masks true PMF - Turns the Cap Table into a problem that can't be undone and VERY de-motivating in the future. With the world moving to 80:90 software copying, and outsourced service / support delivery, the cost to grow and scale a company is FRACTIONAL. Patrick McGuire and I explore the following: ? The importance of financial acumen in entrepreneurship ? How zero-based budgeting can save substantial revenue ? The real costs of employee severance and deferred liabilities ? Strategic benefits of outsourcing and offshoring ? Maintaining equity and avoiding costly mistakes ? Preparing for raising capital and investor readiness #founder #ceo #entrepreneur #capitalraise #capital #seedround https://lnkd.in/drHfQRaA

Two EXITS in 6 months time. Running three companies at the same time and did two exists with a total different outcome. The first exit was a 100% sale of one of the companies towards a strategic buyer after just two years. The money I gained from this exit was on my personal holding bank account for 19 hours before I reinvested 100% of this amount into the other company to buy out a consortium of investors because I had total confidence this company would fly better without these investors onboard. Smart? This company went bankrupt afterwards because of a corporate finance game and a bank who pulled the credit line. More about this crash later. So, having a clear EXIT strategy is key for succes and I had to learn the hard way. Listen to our podcast where Rianne Hottinga asks me all the questions about: EXIT and now what? The aftermath. https://lnkd.in/dbmuN2W9 Picture is me sailing my dream boat after selling my house and one of the companies.
