ChatGPT has reached an impressive new milestone, charting an estimated 100 million active monthly users. Just two months after its launch, this benchmark means the conversational large language model (LLM) is the "fastest-growing consumer application in history," according to research from UBS. One UBS researcher went on to qualify this growth in the context of other applications on the web: “In 20 years following the Internet space, we cannot recall a faster ramp in a consumer internet app." By comparison, TikTok took nine months to reach 100 million monthly users, and Instagram about 2.5 years. Perhaps spurred by this immense popularity, OpenAI, the company behind the LLM, will now offer a new service called ChatGPT Plus, a $20 per month subscription service that will offer users faster response times, preferential access to ChatGPT during peak times, and priority access to new features. The announcement also comes on the heels of a?recent $10 billion investment?from Microsoft into OpenAI—a financial move that apparently scared Google enough to fast-track its own AI projects. Does anyone know what the "new features" include?
I wonder if they have any intention of pulling the plug on free use. I certainly hope not. If anything, Id think the free users add value by contributing to learning/training of the model
What? ChatGPT charging? Surprise!...NOT! This was inevitable. I'm sure we'll soon see a reaction from companies that rushed in to build apps on top of ChatGPT.
Not surprising and I am pretty shocked that it's only $20 considering all the time I am able to save using it. It's not the answer to all but for someone like me who grew up in libraries and books, this is a tool that streamlines a lot of my business processes. I think the key is not to solely depend on it and to see this as a very powerful tool. It does worry me that this is the future and if we have robots doing a lot of our "thinking" and "research," then how will people develop vital skills? I guess time will tell.
Great solution to students using it to cheat-make them pay for it.
I do NOT see any information inside of my ChatGPT account about this at all. NONE! People all over keep pushing for it to have a paid subscription but that is not going to happen I don't think anytime soon. IF I find such information on the official Openai.com or in my ChatGPT account I will report it and prove it via a screenshot.
AH! So those times recently when it tells me it is at capacity was a lie! They just weren't going to give me access during peak times. I knew it sounded suspicious that all of a sudden (last couple weeks) they keep going to capacity, even though they keep telling us they are "ramping up capacity". I guess pretty soon if you ask for a 14 line sonnet, you will only get 7 and a message saying, "if you want the full poem, gi'me moneeeeeee" ??
This is exciting. ChatGPT is Everything Everywhere All At Once https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/ai-chatgpt-everything-everywhere-all-once-meiko-s-patton/
Now it's used mostly for fun, the next step it's gonna become integrated in the bureaucratic and decision-support processes. Next, it might get tokenized, and that's when the real fun would begin

1 年Connor this is a move to not only generate subcription revenue (juicy business model), but to identify and qualify enterprise leads they will target with higher $$$ enterprise packages. Multi-pronged strategy and genius if you ask me
