Hi Linkedin, We’re hiring an Analytics Engineer that will take a central part in the A.I. development process, and I wanted to take the time to answer what it takes to be a successful Data Expert at Aidoc? It’s a question I get asked a lot, and it’s a question I ask myself all the time. I want to always make sure we're accurately emphasizing the right skills in the hiring process, and that we're developing our people in the optimal directions. This is a highly unique role - Aidoc's Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers are paving the way for methodologies and practices in the domain of dataset development for A.I. So - What makes a Data Expert at Aidoc succeed in her role? To answer that, we need to understand the challenges with the data we're working with.? Medical imaging and textual data is tough and unforgiving.? For example, medical imaging has HUGE variations between different scanners, scanning protocols, patient characteristics, and medical centers. It's very complicated to interpret, and each scan can have multiple "different" ground truths, depending on the radiologist who's calling the shots. That is why, developing an AI algorithm with ~80% recall in a controlled environment is difficult, but developing an AI algorithm with 90%+ recall on REAL data is insane. We have to understand, what's difficult for the radiologist to detect, might also be difficult for the algorithm.? Therefore, the top decile of findings could be where we could save patients’ lives.? Every improvement here is CRITICAL.
