Our founder Steven Rouk recently had the opportunity to write a guest blog for We The Free about why animal activists give up, and how we can stop that from happening. It's called "Most Animal Activists Give Up. Here's How to Avoid That." -- https://lnkd.in/gDNGmr8F It's not just grit, it's not just perseverance, and it's not just a personal commitment to the cause. (Although those are all important.) It's also about building up your network of support, and about finding a type of advocacy that is a good fit for you. And it's about being realistic—accepting that this work often takes months or years to get big wins—and then allowing ourselves to be patient with the process, even when we're so upset about the reality. It's important that we stay here in this movement not just for a month, or a year, but for good. And to do that, we need support. And we need to not burn out. So take care of yourself this week! And keep fighting the good fight. The weight of the world does not rest on you as an individual; each of us in this movement can help carry that weight. And together, we will achieve great things for animals.

Do you have space in your life to think about how you want to be involved in animal advocacy? In today's world, it can feel like we need to keep adding, adding, adding—stuffing our lives with more events, more media, more hobbies, more work, more people. But after all of the addition, do we have any space left to think? To reflect? Space to design our lives in accordance with our deepest values? There are very, very few activities in modern society that will?pull?you in the direction of helping end factory farming. In fact, most of society is actively trying to push you in other directions, away from helping animals. That means if you really want to help end factory farming, you have to move?yourself?in that direction. And in order to head that direction, you have to have space to think, to reflect, and to plan. So today, the challenge is this.?If you find that you don't have space in your life to help animals, then what can you subtract? How can you free up some space, in order to allow room for your animal advocacy to exist? Happy Friday, and have a wonderful weekend! –The Connect For Animals team (PS—It can help to talk about this stuff with a friend. If you have a hard time thinking through this on your own, maybe ask a friend out for coffee to chat about it, or call someone on the phone. Ask them if they can help you think about how to create more space in your life for the things that you value.) ... Photo by David Ballew on Unsplash.

A mother's bond with her children: there are few things stronger. Mothers and their new-borns experience a love that many people claim can't be compared to anything else in the world - yet, around the globe at this very moment, countless families are separated, never to see each other again. The offspring are often killed, with the mothers?left in tremendous distress. This is what animal agriculture does to animal families.

The Journey of an Animal Rights Activist Isn't About "Us vs. Them" The most common question I get asked is: "How can I become an effective animal rights activist?" Here's what 20 years of advocacy has taught me: True activism requires two vital elements: 1?? Becoming a Voice of Reason: Lead with compassion, not judgment Focus on dialogue, not debate Allow others to reach their own conclusions Practice patience and understanding 2?? Overcoming Our Primal Instincts: The ego that makes everything about "winning" The tribal mentality that divides into "us vs. them" The need to be "right" rather than effective YES!! Our goal isn't to win arguments. Our goal is to create lasting change through understanding. The Secret: The boundary between "us" and "them" is more porous than we think. Real change happens when we stop seeing others as opponents and start seeing them as people on their own journey. Think about it: Did you become an activist overnight? Or was it a gradual awakening through compassionate guidance? True activism isn't about moral superiority. It's about building bridges of understanding. If you’re vegan like me, I wanted to connect! I am launching an app for vegans called Vegius. It features 100% vegan-only stays and events around the world. If you’re interested in showing your support, I’d be so grateful. Learnt so much from the findings about how to promote care for all animals. But I think the most common value among all my friends and family is kindness, the quality of being good to me and the choice of words. // Values that most correspond to pro-animal actions are: Health?(which can be used to promote plant-forward diets, advocate against the harms of factory farming and potential zoonotic outbreak from animal agriculture) Honesty?(which can be referenced in the fight against ag-gag laws and misleading “humane” labels, or can even prompt consumers to avoid meat companies that have lied about welfare) Reason?(which can be called upon with respect to how unreasonable many aspects of factory farming and animal use in experimentation actually are) Economic Fairness?(which can help level the playing field between animal and non-animal meat products in the marketplace) Freedom of Speech?(which is relevant to advocacy for ag-gag bans, fairer labeling, and the right to protest) Family and Community?(which can come into play when advocating against industrial animal agriculture) // When framing pro-animal issues to conservatives, consider appealing to specific conservative values, which may be different than your normal messaging.? For example, frame diet change as: - adding options, not subtracting them (to preserve the values of Conventionalism and Freedom) - discuss how the alternative protein industry is creating jobs (Economic Prosperity) - frame factory farming as harmful to humans (Health, Family and Community, Justice) or as unnatural (Purity) - point out illegal actions made by meat companies (Respect the Law) - foreign control of U.S. meat companies (Enemy States) - the lobbying from Big Meat (Dark Money) - the connection between crime and violence against animals (Stand Against Crime) - how animal agriculture harms the rural working class (Oppose Discrimination) - the morality of good stewardship of animals, especially companion animals (Faith)?????
New research from Faunalytics shows how conservative political values in the United States can align with initiatives to help animals at both the state and national levels. While animal advocacy can be apolitical, appealing to constituents and legislators on both sides of the political aisle is critical to passing legislation that will benefit animals. This impactful report helps identify which animal causes are most likely to gain support from conservative lawmakers or in conservative areas, and offers guidance on how to frame pro-animal messages to better influence cultural change and encourage individual pro-animal actions among conservatives. Key findings and recommendations, including details on how to apply these findings, can be found in the full report linked below: https://lnkd.in/gaU4AWhB

Did you see her tear fall? ?? Dehorning involves cutting out a cow’s horns and burning out horn-producing tissue—a severely painful and stressful practice. This mutilation is extremely common in the dairy and beef industries. Sadly, animal cruelty runs rampant in the meat, dairy, and egg industries. Contributions from caring animal advocates fuel our undercover investigations, enable us to expose this deplorable treatment, and give the public the knowledge they need to make kind choices. You can help us continue the fight to end cruelty to animals raised for food by making a gift today. ?? https://lnkd.in/g2ec8nTz #TakeAction #Vegan #PlantBased #TakeAction #Dehorning #Cows

AEP is thrilled to announce the launch of our latest report: ‘Pagsibol: The Filipinos’ Journey to Farmed Animal Advocacy’. 'Pagsibol’ encapsulates the essence of our?local farmed animal advocacy?movement; from raising awareness to policy advocacy, this report proves that Filipino advocates are shaping a more empathetic world.Key highlights from the report include: 1.?Ethical Considerations:?The primary motivators for farmed animal welfare advocates?across all groups are ethical principles and empathy for animals. Vegans prioritize the ethical treatment of animals, while vegetarians focus on animal well-being and suffering, which is also shared by farmed animal advocates with no dietary restrictions. This shared value shows a collective commitment to addressing the ethical concerns surrounding animal agriculture. 2.?Environmental Awareness:?Environmental concerns are a significant driving force for all groups, indicating a recognition of the ecological impacts of animal agriculture. This shared concern highlights a growing awareness of the environmental consequences associated with current?animal?farming practices, emphasizing the need for sustainable alternatives. 3.?Opposition to Factory Farming:?A critical motivator for both vegans and farmed animal advocates with no dietary restrictions is opposition to factory farming practices. This shared stance reflects a collective rejection of industrial animal farming methods and underscores the importance of advocating for more humane and sustainable alternatives. Join us as we uncover the diverse voices and initiatives driving farmed animal advocacy in the Philippines -- across regions and gender identities! Download the report: https://lnkd.in/gc3ydJhw

In case anyone thinks this isn’t the ‘proper’ sort of content for LinkedIn: This happened in a ‘workplace’. ?? It’s truly despicable but let’s be clear: It’s not a case of one ‘bad apple’, it’s part of the systemic, routine violence and abuse towards animals in the ‘food’ industry. This poor dear animal, who’s been named Olivia (although the industry labelled her number 8416 – which shows you that she’s just a commodity to them) was trapped inside a crate in a piggery in Victoria, Australia and r*ped for 5 minutes by a male worker. This sweet living being’s life was already utterly miserable by being kept in a crate so small she can barely turn around. The piglets she gave birth to were taken from her and killed. And on top of all that, she’s suffered through a violent s*xual assault. On Monday the ABC 7.30 Report reported on this and other horrendous acts of violence that take place every minute in the industrial animal industry, thanks to the brave and fearless work of Farm Transparency Project who bring this reprehensible, unconscionable reality to the public eye. Nothing good happens to animals who are exploited and commodified and ‘humane meat’ is an oxymoron. This is why so many of us are working to make animal-free innovations in food and other areas the norm. If you want to stop this violence, remove animals from your plates and join the #vegan, #plantbased and #alternativeproteins industry. As for Olivia, there’s a petition to Midland Bacon to release her to Peanuts Animal Sanctuary where she can live free and be loved and cared for. It’s the least they can do – link in comments. #animalagriculture
