We are seven Modules down! We had an incisive and stimulating session with our last guest Arman Ali that was co-facilitated by our very own Samriti Makkar Midha, Co- founder, Equilibrio Advisory LLP and Queer Affirmative and Clinical Psychologist. We delved into the seventh module of our #DEIB Certification Course, In This Together. We explored the nuances of being disabled at the workplace, and what support systems disabled and marginalized employees need to feel affirmed and included in a professional sphere. As always our cohort enriched the conversation with their animated participation. Stay tuned to this space, for more updates about our DEIB Certification Course! #deib #deibcertification #level2training #inclusiveeducation #disabilityawareness #diversityandinclusion #disabilityrights

K12 Leaders & Decision Makers...STOP RIGHT THERE! Question: Who do you have to talk with students, faculty and staff about neurodiversity, invisible disabilities, and emotional health? On a scale of 1-10 (10 being excellent), how well are you reaching students on the outskirts, or helping students in general step into, and take charge of their stories? No need to slunk away if your answer isn't 10/10. It's hard, and there are a LOT of students and teachers out there. BUT...as the 2024-2025 school year begins, few things are more important than starting students and those who lead them off on the right foot - with a solid understanding of who they are, what they can become, and how to get there - and then, what's more...KEEPING them on that path throughout the year. Wouldn't it be great if there was someone who could do that for you? Allow me to introduce myself... My name is Ben. Some people know me as the 'Emo' coach. I'm an edutainer and life coach. (I'm also neurodivergent, myself). For years, I traveled the country acoustic-based, indie/powerpop music. I've also spent 24 years in youth and young adult leadership. These days, I use my stories, points, and songs to help clients step into their own. Have you ever wished that there was a more creative, unique way to empower students, encourage leaders, and enrich culture? This is it. Ideal months:? October (Learning Disability Awareness Month) March (Developmental Disability/Social Work Month) May (Mental Health Awareness Month) and of course, this month of September (the start of the school year, and Suicide Prevention Month) Do you have students, faculty or staff dealing with neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities), emotional health needs or other invisible disabilities? Are there those in your midst who are figuring out what's coming next? Comment "Assets" to learn more. ?? Embracing the Journey: A Parent’s Perspective on Raising a Child on the Spectrum?? As a parent of a wonderful child who is on the spectrum, I find myself reflecting on our unique journey. While my child is considered high-functioning, there are certain behaviors we navigate daily that can often feel overwhelming. In my professional life as an RBT trainer, I witness the immense dedication parents put into helping their children thrive. I now truly understand the desire to be heard and supported — it's a sentiment that resonates deeply with me. Every day, I interact with families who, like mine, face challenges that may not always be visible to others. It’s easy to feel isolated, especially when society sometimes judges rather than understands. However, it’s crucial for us to break down these barriers and foster an environment where every parent feels empowered to voice their struggles without fear of judgment. Our children deserve compassion and support, just as we do as their advocates. No one knows our unique struggles better than we do, and we all want the same thing: to see our children flourish in their own way. Being in the ABA field has given me valuable insights, but it is in my role as a parent that my heart truly learns. Here are a few thoughts I'd like to share with fellow parents and professionals: 1. Listen Actively: Sometimes, all we need is someone who will listen and validate our experiences. 2. Empathy Over Judgment: Remember that behind every behavior is a story we might not fully see. A little understanding goes a long way. 3. Celebrate Every Mileston: No achievement is too small. Each step forward deserves recognition and celebration! Let’s continue to advocate for our children together, fostering a community built on empathy, understanding, and shared experiences. To all the parents out there navigating this journey, know that you are not alone — our voices matter, and we are stronger together. ?? #AutismAwareness #Support #ParentingJourney #ABATherapy #Empathy

Our Trauma-Informed Peer Advocates (TIPA) program funded by UNO Office of Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) was featured in the University of Nebraska Omaha Magazine last month. This program covered five key modules: #MentalHealthLiteracy, #TraumaInformedCare, #CrisisIntervention, #MulticulturalCompetency, and #BasicInterviewingSkills (utilizing the #OARS framework from #MotivationalInterviewing). Peer support programs in schools can offer the foundation for early intervention and foster positive youth development. By empowering students as peer advocates, we’re equipping them to address mental health challenges and ensure timely, meaningful support where needed the most. Here’s the College’s annual report, if you're interested in exploring what participants shared about their experiences - take a look! : https://lnkd.in/g_bm6z8C
I am very proud to have been a part of this team focused on empowering high school students as peer advocates!
