Bill has a point ! Not only can low enthalpy geothermal energy be used for district heating and/or cooling purposes in various countries, but new technologies will further facilitate power?generation from geothermal resources. When properly handled, geothermal projects provide long-term, clean, available 24/7 (baseload) energy, bringing increased energy security and -independence to countries and communities. The vast majority (close to 90%) of Icelandic homes are heated with geothermal energy and Icelandic companies are already exporting their knowledge- and development skills to a number of countries. I urge governments, local communities and regulators to facilitate the development of geothermal energy as an important part of their energy mix.

The future of the planet depends on innovation that disrupts. That’s the only way we can scale up fast enough before it’s too late. While electricity is only about 25% of the energy mix today, we need to rapidly electrify more applications beyond cars (which also have slowed down). We need to electrify heavy duty transport like planes, trains, ships and trucks. We need to electrify heavy industry and warehousing. And we need to electrify homes including heating and cooking. For all 8 billion and not just a few western markets. We have one planet and we share together in its future state. Coupled with innovations like what Fervo Energy is doing, and funded aggressively by large families, funds and governments, we should hopefully get the snowball rolling faster. Finding multiple, complementary solutions to decarbonising electricity generation is a great way to reducing our need to burn fuel. Here is a great example of using #innovation to improve on existing solutions. #environment #Electricity #decarbonisation

Fracking got a bad rep some 20 years ago. That was the beginning of the shale gas revolution which freed up massive untapped resources of natural gas. That enabled the US power grid to shut down polluting coal plants (almost all will be closed by 2030) resulting in dramatic reduction in US carbon emissions from electricity generation. Yes natural gas is a fossil fuel but results in ~70% less CO2 emissions when replacing a coal plant. The actual reduction was even more significant as coal generally was replaced by a combination of natural gas and renewable power … so closer to 85% carbon reduction assuming a 50/50 mix. Then fracking turned the US from the world’s largest importer of oil to the world’s largest producer of oil - changing the geopolitical landscape. Now fracking, in its third act, will make geothermal the ultimate base and load-following match to wind and solar. Keep up the good work Fervo!

Get to see oil and gas technology being used to create more forms of renewables to reduce the dependence on pollution creating energy sources. Australia has some great sources of geo thermal close to the surface this might enable it to become a solution and not just a pipe dream.
