#50YearsOfReinforcedEarth - Revisiting the M27 Octavius Project The original Romsey Road overbridge had developed cracks and bearing failures, leading to its replacement. Instead of a full demolition, we designed the new structure around the existing abutment bases, using a mix of Reinforced Earth? techniques. By using discrete soil reinforcing strips, the design can be flexible and work around any obstructions in the backfill.?This minimised waste, saved time, and reduced costs. A Florida #municipality faced a critical situation with the severe #deterioration of a master #lift #station and an adjacent collector #manhole. Both #structures were in a state of advanced #decay, with a previously-applied non-Sprayroq liner that failed along with significant #concrete #erosion, jeopardizing their #functionality and #structural integrity. This project showcased the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of #SprayWall in addressing critical #infrastructure challenges, providing a #sustainable and long-lasting #solution for the municipality’s master lift station and collector manhole. Cantilever bridges are named after their construction method. The Firth of Forth is a giant of its type. ? Firth of Forth Bridge (520m span), John Fowler, Benjamin Baker, 1890 #inktoberBridges2024 ? A colossal steel truss (520m span, 110m high piers, and the train crossing at 46m high) is built in a cantilever, including the central section, which will ultimately be isostatic. The structural elements show their efforts in the forms: big plate tubes in compression, open profiles sets in traction.
