This is a really interesting development in the area. The adoption of AI/ML as a tool to drive automation was always going to be one of the tools used to address ongoing challenges in the adoption and integration of robots, especially small industrial robots en mass.? SMEs in particular find deployment and adaptation of integrations challenging because of a combination of time and skill requirements often making repurposing difficult, expensive, time or all three.? This is one of the key factors in why larger businesses have been able to punch their way through the automation problem and reap the benefits, but many smaller businesses are still slow to adopt or don’t experience the full value of automation.? The automotive sector is a great example of this but manufacturers working in smaller volumes with variable materials are still highly reliant on labour.? Software can’t answer the challenges of getting AI into robots as many ML/AI solutions are cloud-based, and the challenges of baking AI software into a certified safety controller are pretty complex from a regulatory point of view.? Nvidia seems to be trying to get ahead of the game Terradyne not only have market dominance but also has influence over the direction of regulatory development in collaborative robots.? When?Universal Robots?(UR) recently surveyed 1,200 manufacturers across North America and Europe about their use of technology and future investment plans, over 50 percent of the respondents indicated they are now using AI and machine learning in their production processes. “AI isn’t just hype,” says Ujjwal Kumar, group president of Teradyne Robotics, parent company of Universal Robots. “We’re seeing significant interest in physical AI.
