Answers inquiries concerning systems operation; diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems; and recommends or performs remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation. What would you recommend for someone who wants to transition to a senior system administrator role? ?? 1] Understand the system and its integrations better. 2] Enhance your knowledge w.r.t process. 3] Though its a senior system admin role, try to explore as many areas of the system even if it is out of scope of work. 4]. Repeat steps three and four till you think you are expert in fixing any issue within less time.

As an infrastructure analyst/tech support engineer, one of the greatest disappointments in work is being unable to resolve a users' IT issue that stops them from continuing their work at first level. Clients who have important meetings/work to do soon will be easily frustrated by such unexpected issues. In these situations, the role of a support engineer becomes critical. Analysts should try all possible ways to find some backup option for users to continue some work.(For e.g.: If a company laptop is dead, help them setup teams/outlook on their phone/other devices so that they can attend important meetings or view important emails). Once escalation is done, proper communication should be given to next level teams handling the issue to make things faster if the user needs a fix ASAP. Some users might be annoyed by the fact that they need to contact their manager to inform them about these unable to work IT issues. In this situation, too, the analyst can become helpful by sending a short email to their manager giving them a very brief idea about the issue the user is facing, the present status of the case and steps taken to fix the problem soon. #customersatisfaction #supportengineer

Should companies hire only individuals who have the qualifications of the position they are hiring for? In my honest opinion, the answer is no. This even applies to the entry level positions. What are the requirements? 2 to 4 years of experience! For entry level? I myself went from my first Tech jobs as a tier 3 helpdesk technician to a senior windows server admin in under 6 years with much less experience in all areas. I have gone into every job I have ever had completely blind of what to do. To top that off, how many interviews did I have to go through? I only interviewed for 2 jobs that I have ever had and that was my 1st and 3rd IT Job. What happens when you take a chance on someone and hire them? They learn the job and gain the experience. We do not always need to be trained. Sometimes, people learn differently. In my own case, I learn the job and what to do by doing the job daily. These hiring practices of denying people just because they do not have what you want needs to end. Give us all a chance and you will see that you did not make a mistake!
