Council Treasurer, The Ferns Peer-Run Respite; Appointed Member, Mental Health Planning Council; Board Member at HopeWorx, Inc.
I'm happy to announce the opening of The Ferns Peer-Run Respite, and have been honored to be part of a group of people working over the past 7 years to help make peer-run respite a reality in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Ferns Peer-Run Respite is a non-clinical mental health resource in Montgomery County, PA. We aim to be a crisis alternative resource for any individual experiencing emotional distress that identifies with needing a break but may not want to, or cannot, interact with current available clinical resources. The respite is located in a residential home, in a rural community, that has 24/7 trained staff available at all times. We’d love to have you as a guest!

There is a significant shortage of mental health providers in NH, delaying access to critical care for children, adolescents, and their families. Through teleconsult initiatives, NH MCAP is part of the solution. NH MCAP’s Access Line (launching May) and Teleconsult to Schools initiatives connect those on the front line of the mental health crisis - primary care providers and school professionals - with timely consultation from behavioral health experts. https://ow.ly/LAQL50RwaUE

Today in group supervision with a Child and Youth Mental Health team in Australia, I will be teaching the technique of tracking sequences. Tracking is a versatile technique used in various therapy modalities. I particularly draw on the work of Strategic Family Therapy and the Milan team. Today I'll be introducing different questions to help practitioners map out the "dance" or cycle that families often repeat. I'll also suggest creative ways to engage families in this process. For instance, have you ever thought about drawing a cycle on concrete with colorful chalk? You can use different colors to represent each person in the cycle, or to differentiate between actions, thoughts, and feelings. Another experiential approach is to ask family members to stand in different sections of the cycle to better understand each other's experiences. If the family can walk through the cycle on the concrete to reach the "end," it provides a powerful way to symbolize the conclusion of the challenging situation. Do you have any other creative methods for tracking sequences? Feel free to download this free tracking tip sheet from my website: https://lnkd.in/gXqRYXNY
