House Democrats in Delaware just named state Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown as the "First State's" House Speaker - the first African American and Black woman to hold that role. There are now *FOUR* Black women state House Speakers in the Northeastern U.S. - Delaware, Maine, Maryland and Pennsylvania. This is a huge deal, not just historically or symbolically, but in terms of what this means politically and policy-wise on the horizon for these states and this region considering the tectonic shifts on the federal level. This week, we celebrate eleven years of working toward our audacious mission of activating young elected leaders to bridge the partisan divide and transform American politics. While a lot has changed over the last eleven years, including our evolution from Millennial Action Project to our identity today as Future Caucus, our commitment remains to engage and inspire future generations of elected leaders to transcend political polarization and improve our democracy. Young lawmakers continue to prove that, despite a culture of toxic polarization, collaborative governance is not just possible, but thriving. In the last year alone, 2,378 bipartisan bills were sponsored by Gen Z and millennial lawmakers, with 1,239 bills being enacted by members of the Future Caucus network. And with over 1,800 young lawmakers and 34 state chapters in our network, young leaders are not just envisioning a better future, they are actively building it.
