As companies transform and change, one thing remains the same: leadership continues to define company culture. Therefore, innovating your products and services isn't enough to turn the page to a new chapter; changing your organization's leadership approach must also be on the list. Of the six essential leadership skills in this HBR article, the one that spoke to me the most was adaptive communication. Adaptive communication is the practice of being flexible and open while communicating with others. In my experience, it lends itself well to servant leadership, a philosophy that can be transformative for company cultures. Leaders who listen and communicate better actively perform service to their employees by constantly adapting to their needs. This responsiveness, when carried over to other leadership tasks, creates a servant leader. When employees experience this kind of leadership, their understanding of a company changes and a culture transformation ensues, leaving a company changed and better equipped for the future.
