It was a privilege to be invited by KPJ HEALTHCARE UNIVERSITY this evening to listen to Prof Nora Colton from UCL Global Business School for Health on Collective Leadership and Systems Thinking. Her insights into these critical areas have left me inspired and motivated to implement these concepts in our healthcare practices. Collective Leadership in healthcare emphasizes the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders—patients, providers, and policymakers. By fostering a culture of shared responsibility and inclusivity, we can enhance decision-making processes and ultimately improve patient outcomes. This approach empowers teams to leverage diverse perspectives, leading to more innovative solutions in addressing healthcare challenges. Systems Thinking, on the other hand, encourages us to view healthcare as an interconnected system rather than isolated components. By understanding the complex relationships within the healthcare ecosystem, we can identify underlying issues and implement more effective interventions. This holistic perspective is essential for driving sustainable improvements and ensuring that our healthcare systems adapt to the evolving needs of society. Together, these frameworks pave the way for a more resilient and responsive healthcare in today's challenging landscape. #collectiveleadership #systemsthinking

Afternoon Session Discussion: Successfully Leading Change in Healthcare Organizations: The healthcare environment is constantly changing, and provider organizations must adapt in order to survive and thrive. Organizations are frequently asked to respond to legislative changes, market fluctuations, safety concerns, and patient or staff demands. The success of major change implementation hinges on how it communicated and how it impacts individuals and processes in the organization. Stakeholders frequently resist change for many reasons, including not having enough information, fear of how the change will affect them, comfort with the status quo, and not understanding the benefits of the change. For change to truly be effective, a leader must know how to effectively communicate the benefits, minimize the barriers, and describe the processes. Learn from your peers as they share approaches that were successful and those that impeded the change process. #ACHE #HealthcareLeadership #ChangeManagement #FallConference2024

Gone are the days when quality is owned by a single department or measured on a distant dashboard. In an article published by Becker's Healthcare, Erica Carbajal writes about how clinical quality is "woven into the fabric of nearly every aspect of health system operations." She describes how efforts to integrate quality and safety into health care operations initially gained momentum in the 1990s, and have since been amplified by the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The article goes on to detail how leaders at Jefferson Health, Ascension, and Johns Hopkins Medicine have evolved their strategies in recent years. It’s event season in the healthcare industry as open enrollment and AEP campaigns are in full swing. But one of my favorite fall events is the Nevada Health Care Forum, which gathers leaders from the healthcare industry to connect on issues that affect our state. This year’s event presented an opportunity to moderate a panel comprised of some of the most influential providers in our region for advancing healthcare. Thank you Mitchell Cloward, John Rhodes MD, MBA, Dinesh Kumar, MD, FCCP and Sherif Abdou for your invaluable insights. Key takeaways were: 1. Reducing healthcare costs begins with placing more importance on the relationship between patients and their primary care provider. 2. Addressing the physician shortage means improving communities overall with a focus on better schools and quality of life. 3. More than technology, providing clinicians with the right care management team to help them better care for thier patients is what reduces the administrative burden most physicians face. #nevadahealthcareforum
