An American Boeing RC-135S Cobra Ball reconnaissance aircraft took off from a US base in Alaska to observe the Sarmat tests, MeNMyRC said, citing FlightRadar24 data. However, it did not record the launch, the report says. The expert believes that the explosion possibly occurred not directly during the launch, but, for example, during the process of loading the fuel. Eighty Years since Normandy--and the Effort Continues by Pat Jordan, 6/6/2024 ? ? Today, June 6, is the 80th anniversary of the pivotal World War II invasion at Normandy Beach, France. ? Normandy’s undisturbed beaches now look like any other, but while scrolling through my images, one caught my attention.?Something about it--dark and ominous--caused me to imagine what transpired there and the terror that must have gripped participants.?Tens of thousands of soldiers knew that, after the hundred-plus mile English Channel crossing, they'd then be transported to the beachheads in small boats pitching and rolling over eleven miles of choppy water, where mines and other menacing obstructions threatened them as they landed on the five targeted beaches in North Western France. ? Research for a recent dramatic presentation about a home front worker—a Rosie the Riveter-- whose father and sweetheart both served in the armed forces, has heightened my awareness and empathy for what was endured by the troops who fought a desperate do-or-die war that truly was one where our democracy was in peril of falling under the control of despots who would embrace tyranny and hold onto power at any cost. ? World War II made the work of people on the home front important as well and, although not so dangerous and formidable, it was imperative that they do their jobs well to provide the support that would assist in overcoming the imminent menace presented by that war. ? Now, we have an obligation to hold onto what came at such a high cost. Many say things here aren't perfect, and there may be something to that, but if you ask me, I'm grateful for the life and many benefits that I, and we, enjoy today--eighty years after World War II--and I plan to vote to keep it.?It’s a small effort to secure what was gained at such a tremendous sacrifice.
