Content moderation is the process of overseeing the user generated content that appears on your digital platform to ensure that it comply complies with your community standards and your guidelines, and then dealing with it if it doesn't. And it has this rippling effect of benefits that. Is broader than you might realize, so. 1st and most important. Is that it ensures the safety of the player in the moment. So proactive moderation, and I'm going to use this term a lot, so I'm going to define what it is. Proactive moderation is. Checking that content. Before any user sees it in that split second in a chat room between after somebody types something in and clicks enter, and before it shows up on the screen, that content is already looked at, classified, decided upon, and acted upon. That is proactive moderation. Proactive moderation protects that player. That protects the player that might be the target of threats or harassment. Generally harmful content. Outside of that. Removing. This hate and harassment and and and other kinds of negative content on your platform generates a more positive community for all of your players and can prevent future toxic content from showing up on the platform because toxicity breeds toxicity. Not all toxic content comes from what we call bad actors. Some toxic content comes from people who don't understand what the guidelines are for the platform. Like it or not, nobody sits down and reads your community guidelines in the terms of service. We all know this, right? So. Removing that content makes it obvious to people that this content is unwelcome here and it protects everyone. And then broader than that, removing that content protects the reputation of your game in the world at large. Helping you attract and retain a diverse player base keeps your game alive. Unfortunately. Toxic behavior is very common. So in in 2021, this is a study that was published on the Unity blog. Actually, they did a study of gamers and their experience with toxic content. So let's just do let's just look, do a little mini survey here. So if you wouldn't mind, please raise your hand or nod your head if you have personally witnessed toxic behavior in games. So give me Oh my God. Yeah, yeah. OK, Yes, yeah, if it if you're. Well, this doesn't surprise me. This isn't a more than averagely experienced audience of gamers. So yes, you have witnessed toxic behavior in games. Well, that's what they found. Two, more than 70% of the players they surveyed had personally experienced toxicity in online games.
