We're creating the #cleanenergy workforce of the future! ? Today, our Trustees approved $8M for clean energy training & development programs. These workforce investments will help communities in #NYC and #Utica, on #LongIsland, and at SUNY campuses statewide. ? NYPA is using its expertise to prepare the workforce with the training and skills required to adapt to and grow with the emerging clean-energy technologies that are already shaping the jobs and careers that will fuel our state’s economy. When we began unpacking the symptoms that contribute to Wyoming's economic challenges, several key areas emerged as barriers. To address these barriers, the WBC is leading workstreams focused on understanding the challenges so we can work collaboratively to solve them. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE White Mountain Economic Development Awarded MAKE IT Prize Grant from the Department of Energy Phoenix, AZ, 04/12/2024 - White Mountain Economic Development (WMED) is proud to announce that it has been selected as a Phase 1 winner of the Manufacture of Advanced Key Energy Infrastructure Technologies (MAKE IT) Prize: Strategies Track. This prestigious grant, awarded by the Department of Energy (DOE), recognizes WMED's commitment to advancing clean energy manufacturing in collaboration with key partners. The MAKE IT Prize, developed by DOE's Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) in partnership with its Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) and Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), aims to promote domestic manufacturing of critical energy technology components while engaging communities to catalyze manufacturing activity at the regional level. "We are thrilled to be selected as a winner of the MAKE IT Prize Phase 1 grant," said Russ Yelton, Executive Director of White Mountain Economic Development. "This grant will allow us to further our mission of fostering sustainable economic growth and empowering our partner communities through clean energy initiatives." Through this grant, WMED will collaborate with the cities of St. Johns and Showlow, Northland Pioneer College, Navajo County, and Apache County to develop a roadmap for establishing clean energy manufacturing in the region. The project will focus on identifying potential manufacturers, engaging the community, and creating a strategic plan to support clean energy manufacturing initiatives. "In Phase 1 of the MAKE IT Prize: Strategies Track, we outlined our vision for clean energy manufacturing in our region and developed a comprehensive community engagement plan," explained Donald Laughlin, President and CEO at WMED. "Winning this grant validates our efforts and positions us to compete in Phase 2: Create, where we will further refine our concept roadmap and engage potential manufacturers." Why are public universities vital to the economy of the region they serve? Here's a solid example: in 2023, the MN legislature allocated $5M to support infrastructure projects in Minnesota jurisdictions, including Tribal nations, with fewer than 15,000 people.?The Empowering Small Minnesota Communities program is a community-centered collaboration with the University of Minnesota to support small communities in becoming well-positioned to benefit from federal, state, and local investments.?The program’s first grant cycle funded?35 projects across Minnesota. In a time when trust in public institutions is eroding, efforts such as this are critical to drive impact across the rural areas of America.

As temperatures rise, low-income New Yorkers face significant challenges in staying cool, exacerbated by escalating utility costs. Robin Hood's latest Poverty Tracker report, in collaboration with Columbia University's Center for Poverty and Social Policy, highlights the growing issue of energy insecurity in NYC. “We must ensure that energy-specific supports, like subsidies and disconnection protections, reach all the New Yorkers who need them while making progress on key issues like housing, child care, tax policies, and wages to make NYC more broadly affordable,” said Matthew Klein.
