When you ask a development professional why they do what they do, you can get all kinds of answers — everything from “This place changed my life” to “I believe in our mission” to “I love helping people pursue their passions.” However, when it comes to higher education, the answer to this question is usually the same — “For the students!” Education has a profound and transformational impact on our lives and as current and former students, we all remember educational experiences that changed our lives, our beliefs, our interests, our professional trajectories. The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV’s annual Student Research Symposium is one such experience. For our students, it is an opportunity learn, explore, consider, and discover. This symposium is one of the hallmarks of our medical school experience, challenging students to question, hypothesize, investigate, and report their findings — the very essence of the scientific method writ large across the Undiscovered Country that is the healthcare landscape in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. #UNLV
?? Inside our largest research symposium to date: Over 120 student poster presentations and a full house of attendees came together to advance research that makes a difference in the communities we serve.

12-Step Fellowship Texts and Their Interpretation Today: Wendy Dossett Wendy states the key message that she wants to get more widely known, including in professional and clinical circles, is the ‘diversity and creativity of people who engage with that concept and how they interpret it.’ These people are not just sitting back and accepting a 1930s concept—they are engaging with it, but bringing their own experience and interpretation to it. https://lnkd.in/gajwGSHY

Milwaukee: your lab coats are machine-washable. No need to dry-clean ahead of Escuela Verde's #communitysciencefair on March 15. For those tuning in late, I organized three #sciencefairs for grown-ups in the '00s as Cedar Block. Joey Zocher, PhD and R. Justin Hougham, Ph.D. asked if we could reboot them for an annual event with community members AND EV students in 2016. They turned my quirky idea into something I couldn't have imagined. #ScienceStrikesBack is beautiful, brilliant and substantive in singularly inspiring ways. You can and should attend. The video at the link below shows it in action. These kids -- I think the world is gonna be alright. Consider participating, as it's open to anyone who misses doing science fairs or never got an opportunity. I participated as a civilian in February 2020, winning 1st place in the Technology division for building a functional time machine. My life has more space than it has in recent years so I submitted an application this morning for a project that considers the biology of artificial intelligence. Okay I'm done. This is simply my favorite experience in town. It makes me happier than a Bucks game or the Art Museum. "Science Strikes Back (SSB) aims to encourage community members in #Milwaukee to critically analyze #environmentalissues and solve problems in their communities. Through the development of collaborative relationships between students, educators, and content specialists from locally-based organizations, Science Strikes Back will produce a strong network in Milwaukee for continued #environmentaleducation and #naturalresourcestewardship. Inspiring an interest in our #GreatLakeswatershed, supporting #studentinquiry in #communityissues and advancing dialogue around #environmentaljustice all are examples of how SSB hopes to support science in Milwaukee." https://lnkd.in/dgKY_xgd
