?? My Journey: From Dreaming of Becoming a Doctor to Helping Others as a Remote Specialist ?? As a kid, I always had big dreams of becoming a doctor because I wanted to help people, especially considering my own experiences growing up with a disability. Life took me on a different path, and although I didn't become a doctor, I found a way to make a positive impact every day. Now, I'm super proud to work as a Remote Specialist, contacting the Social Security Administration on behalf of law firms, giving real-time updates on disability claims, and helping American citizens access the benefits they deserve. Even though this journey wasn't what I initially imagined, I'm grateful for where it took me. Working remotely from Nigeria has been a fantastic opportunity. It allows me to provide top-notch services at a lower cost for firms while maintaining quality. And you know what? I love what I do. Whether checking the status of claims or assisting in the appeals process, I've discovered that this work is my true calling and fits perfectly with my desire to help others. To all the law firms and organizations looking for specialized support, I'd be thrilled to connect and see how I can help streamline your processes, save costs, and genuinely make a difference for your clients. Let's make a positive impact together! ???? #RemoteWork #SSDSpecialist #DisabilitySupport #LawFirmSupport #RemoteOpportunities #CostEffectiveSolutions #SocialSecurityDisability https://lnkd.in/dhW8mG6b

Master of Social Work Student at USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work | Disability and Mental Health Advocate
Sometimes I forget how well I manage my life. ? I often compare myself to my peers and those younger than me because they already have steady careers. ? I must stop and remind myself that I manage way more than your average 27-year-old due to living with a disability. ? I have experienced more government bureaucracy than most people will ever experience. ? I have to advocate for everything I want to do, often to a team of case managers who know full well that they have the ultimate decision-making power. ? I have to teach my 24/7 assistants how they can best support and help me. ? I have to make sure my medications and prescriptions are filled on time. ? I have to coordinate my outings around which assistant can take me. ? I have to herd cats in order to live my life how I want to live it. ? Yes, I have administrative help from my case managers with making phone calls, but I am the one pushing for things to get done. ? When I feel frustrated, I tell myself that I would not be doing anything I am doing without the services I receive. ? But it is draining. ? And it’s not really something you can put on a résumé. #Disability #Advocacy #DisabilityPrideMonth

#hiring *Family Court Adviser (Social Worker)*, London City, *United Kingdom*, fulltime #opentowork #jobs #jobseekers #careers #LondonCityjobs #GreaterLondonjobs #HealthcareMedical #carers #carejobs #carecareers #carework #socialcarejobs *Apply*: https://lnkd.in/gu6HYNdM We are Cafcass - the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service - and we represent children in family court cases in England. Independently advising the family courts about what is safe for children and in their best interests, we speak up for over 140,0000 children and young people every year ensuring their needs, wishes and feelings are heard. In short, our role is to be their voice. After Ofsted Inspectors spoke to over 300 staff earlier this year, they shared some amazing quotes - visit What colleagues said about working with us Cafcass to find out more and details of our event where you can hear from some of our social workers and managers. While we are proud that Ofsted judged us to be 'outstanding' when they inspected us in early 2024, we haven't come this far only to come this far. This outcome has energised us to just keep getting better at what we do for children and families. If our purpose resonates with you, we are recruiting for the role of Family Court Adviser (Social Worker). Whilst this role is part of a team based from our office in Grays Inn Road, our teams work flexibly and remotely, your proximity to the office doesn't always have to be a critical consideration. Let us tell you a bit more about the role Our Public Law teams are involved with cases where the local authority has serious concerns about the safety or welfare of a child, and the court requests for Cafcass to become involved in the case. The Cafcass Social Worker, often referred to as Children's Guardians, is typically involved with the child across an extended period carrying out relevant assessments to understand their needs, wants and feelings, and effectively communicate this to the court through a combination of written reports and giving evidence. The above is just a flavour of what the role entails and if you're thinking of applying, we encourage you to read the full job description (which you can access when you click through) to gain a better understanding. and what we're looking for. Being a Family Court Adviser is very rewarding - but it's not for everyone. You must be a Social Work England registered social worker who's organised, resilient and able to work independently. Confident in your abilities, you'll have demonstrable experience of working with children and families over a sustained period as a Social Worker, potentially supplemented from relevant experience from earlier in your career also. You can find out more about the above - and much more - before you apply and we also recommend you read the job description. Should you join us, you will be trusted to work flexibly and independen

Unfortunately, until the United States government passes legislation that mandates felony convictions be made public only under severe circumstances and does not hinder individuals past three years post-conviction, we will continue to face significant barriers to true rehabilitation and reintegration. The institutions we call “departments of correction” often fall short of their promise. There is neither correction nor meaningful rehabilitation. The reason recidivism rates remain so high is not because individuals aren’t trying to better themselves, but because we have a system that offers little opportunity to those who have paid their debt to society. Imagine serving your time, wanting nothing more than to become a productive citizen, only to be met with a 20-year-old record that blocks you from obtaining housing, starting a business, or securing gainful employment. This isn’t just a discussion for Democrats to have. It is a conversation Republicans and all Americans should engage in. If we are serious about criminal justice reform and reducing recidivism, we must create a system that offers second chances—not one that continues to punish people long after they’ve served their time. We owe it to them and to the future of our communities to ensure that the pathway to redemption is clear.
It’s exhausting how Mass Incarceration is immortal. 24 years later…a multitude of experiences and journeys later, I’m still having these sort of conversations to be able to access platforms and experiences that I deserve to have access to. @airbnb is requesting a portfolio of work that will “prove” to them that I am worthy to be able to rent houses apartments and hotels on their website… #MassIncarcerationMinute AFTER I’ve had this account for nearly a year, not factoring in the multiple ways that through my labor they receive income… So when you all are hiring formerly incarcerated people, when individuals like to talk about the experience of incarceration as something that you can easily get past, these moments are important for me to share. Because no matter how big you think. No matter how much success you think I have acquired - in the dead of night an entire work trip has been turned upside down because for some reason, Airbnb decided that I needed a deeper background check, and I was “given” the opportunity to prove my worthiness. #massincarceration #reality #airbnb #wednesday

I feel like I need to mention this to further the conversation on helping people with incarceration backgrounds: To those of us trying to navigate the Re-entry system, it often seems like the impetus is to throw services at us then see what sticks. This may seem like offering help, but is based on what Robert Greenleaf would describe as "Power Over" dynamics, where someone makes the decision FOR the stakeholder, not with. It's a nice idea but not helpful to offer me a host of seminars and programs without knowing my circumstances and needs. When you reach out to offer services, take the time to get to know my unique needs and desires. Don't offer CDL to someone who's still waiting on a Learners permit. Don't offer Clerical training for full-time to a single Mom who needs to take her kids to Daycare at 8 in the morning every day. Tailor to the strengths and lived experience of your clients. Get to know us as people, not results to a funder( Full Disclosure, I used to do Grants, so I know the whole results-driven approach). Allow OUR needs to dictate what services to offer. Be specific. Another thing-Please understand that my scheduling conflicts with your agency don't mean I am lazy, or don't value what you offer, or have a " Prison Mentality". I simply may have a lot to juggle as I do the work of Re-entry. Empathy for the stress of having to get everything done to get everything else done goes along way with the Formerly Incarcerated. So, dear agencies, let's do this the right way! #Justice #Reentry #SocialJustice #SecondChance #Helping
