At United Arts, we are passionate about the transformative impact of arts and culture on our society. Recent findings from the Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) report highlight just how significant this impact is, both economically and socially. Economic Impact: In 2022, the nonprofit arts and culture sector generated a staggering $151.7 billion in economic activity. This includes $73.3 billion in spending by arts organizations and $78.4 billion in event-related expenditures by audiences. Job Creation: This sector supported 2.6 million jobs and provided $101 billion in personal income to residents across the country. Tax Revenue: Arts and culture activities contributed $29.1 billion in tax revenue to local, state, and federal governments. Community Pride: 89% of arts event attendees expressed that these activities instill a sense of pride in their community. Social Connections: The arts foster social connections, community pride, and cultural understanding, making our communities more vibrant and inclusive. Why It Matters: Investing in arts and culture is not just about supporting creativity; it’s about fostering economic growth, enhancing community livability, and promoting social well-being. At United Arts, we are committed to continuing our work to ensure that arts and culture remain a vibrant and integral part of our community. Join us in supporting the arts. We asked this question today in our session “From Welcoming to Cooperation: Creating Spaces of Belonging and Purpose” at the Nonprofit Association of Washington. What becomes possible for you when you feel you belong? For our community? P.S. Music can be a great way to create spaces of belonging.

?? Let's talk VOLUNTEERS ?? However big your Charity / Museum / Heritage organisation is, have you got the right insurance to deal with volunteer and employee issues that get a bit spicy?! ?? The case in point in Brixham will no doubt highlight for all charities the need for a discussion on Employment Practices cover (and limits) at the very least. ?? Talk to PIB Insurance Brokers for great advice and appropriate insurance cover to protect your management team. #charity #charityinsurance #museum #museuminsurance #heritageinsurance #employmentpractices #pib #protectmanagement

Next month I am honored to be presenting to museum directors from the Oklahoma Museums Association. I have at least one other large state museums association also interested, so there seems to be a common thread here. I absolutely *LOVE* working with the association world! Reason being, I often have to speak in generalities as most in a general audience will have a wide range of interests related to risk, but when you speak to a specific industry or profession with very niche specific risks, it just allows for much greater focus and strategies to be offered. If you represent #associationmanagement for a professional #nonprofitorganization I'd love to have a conversation with you as there are many points of potential customization, not only for the obvious need, but for potential ongoing customization and even association branding. Certainly, it's worth a conversation. I know someone who can help. #defensebydesign #associations #nonprofitmanagement #conferencespeaker

I am challenged by the continuing assault on artists for the views they express in their work. In the case of comedians, such as Rob Schneider, the art is comedy and its performance. I understand that some people are offended, but as Rowan Atkinson of "Mr. Bean" fame said, "free speech without the right to offend is not free speech at all." People have the right to not like an artist's work. They have the right, as people did in this case, walk out of the performance. But forcing the hospital to apologize for booking the artist is a step too far - in my opinion. Instead, performances such as these are best used - if you are offended - as stages for public debate, not a demand for apologies or cancellations. We will be all better for it. Let's not focus on wars of culture, but rather identify problems and discuss solutions. Good art raises these questions - which is what Mr. Schneider did. https://lnkd.in/dKKUxebr

Americans for the Arts recently released their thorough Arts & Economic Prosperity study, including the following two key findings that hit very close to home. As the director of a community-based, non-profit arts and culture center, I get to see firsthand every day the economic impact on our neighborhoods and pride in our communities that is driven by artists and arts organizations. "Pride in community.?89% of attendees agreed that the activity or venue they were attending was “a source of neighborhood pride for the community.” 86% said they would “feel a sense of loss if that activity or venue was no longer available,” and 86% felt it important that future generations also be able to have that cultural experience." "Arts and culture drives commerce to local businesses.?When people attend a cultural event, they often make an outing of it—dining at a restaurant, paying for parking or public transportation, enjoying dessert after the show, and returning home to pay for child or pet care. Attendees at nonprofit arts and culture events spend $38.46 per person per event, beyond the cost of admission—vital income for local merchants and a value-add that few industries can compete with."

It’s all too easy to cut funding for the arts when budgets are tight, especially with so many urgent needs. But investing in theatres, museums, and galleries isn’t a luxury—it’s essential to our society’s fabric. The arts inspire, educate, and bring us together. They turn towns and cities into vibrant communities, fostering a sense of identity and pride. Studies show that engaging with the arts boosts mental health and well-being, giving us shared spaces for reflection, joy, and connection. When we support culture, we’re investing in a richer, healthier, more inclusive future for everyone. It’s about building a society where every life is enriched, not just supported. Let’s keep arts funding alive for the benefit of us all. #SupportTheArts #CommunityWellbeing #CultureMatters #InvestInCreativity
Around three-quarters of council budgets are spent on social care so is there any money left to fund the arts and culture? My story looking at why theatres, museums and galleries are so important for towns and cities - and also our wellbeing ?? Watch here https://lnkd.in/dRvuVBjt ?? Listen here https://lnkd.in/dVKBMsQ5
