With catastrophic flooding and winds of up to 140 mph, Hurricane Helene has had a devastating impact on many of the places our employees and the nonprofits we serve call home. The scale of the devastation caused by Helene is difficult to comprehend. Florida's west coast is preparing itself yet again for the potential consequences of Hurricane Milton. The aftermath of these storms will leave an impact for many years to come. It is in difficult times like this that we should consider what we can do to help those who need it most. Located in North Carolina, our hearts are heavy with the unprecedented destruction Hurricane Helene has brought to our western counties. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, the National Guard, utility teams, and relief personnel, the most severely affected areas are still isolated, struggling to access necessities like gas, food, water, electricity, and cell service. The impact extends beyond our state borders, affecting numerous communities across Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida with significant damage. Although our facilities were not damaged, we all have connections—be it colleagues, friends, family members, neighbors or clients—who have been touched by this tragedy. Confronted with such overwhelming adversity and pain can leave us questioning how best to assist those in need. However, coming together as a community offers us the strength to create change. Hurricane Helene's devastating impact on individuals and communities - within and beyond our team - has reminded us how vital it is to stand together during times of crisis. In partnership with the Red Cross, we are contributing to relief efforts to help those affected by the hurricane’s destruction.
