For the month of July, our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Albuquerque are hosting our 11th Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to help children in need begin the school year with all of the tools they need for academic success. With so many uncertainties about how children will return to school and what the classroom will look like, they need your help more than ever. Families with children in K-12 spent a projected $519 per child on back-to-school needs last year. For families in low-income neighborhoods, the costs are simply not realistic. Donating new school supplies to children in disadvantaged communities will make an impact on their ability to begin the school year school-ready. The Smithson Public School in Kitchener has had the same playground structure for over 25 years!?It is a cornerstone of our community and unfortunately, it is facing imminent closure. This closure will not only deprive the children at Smithson School of a safe and engaging play space but also affect the families in our Rosemount community who rely on the school yard and play structure as one of the few accessible playgrounds. Currently, the playground is being repaired by parents/community members who take it upon themselves to “sneak in” and do small repairs to keep the structure functioning and safe for our children. However, as stated above the current play structure is approaching a state of disrepair, and its closure is inevitable. Our goal is to raise money to replace the playground structure this year. We have been doing our best this past year and have raised a fraction of the needed cost. As you may know these structures are not cheap.?We need your help!?Every donation, big or small, will make significant impact for us to reach our goal and help the dream of a new playground come true for our Smithson Students! This is just a small sample of the schools we’re proud to donate to. 1 in 4 girls miss school each month because they don’t have period supplies. As a parent and advocate for education, I've witnessed firsthand the incredible impact of the GT (Gifted and Talented) program on our children's lives. Unfortunately, due to state budget cuts, our daughter's GT program, SPIRAL, is facing imminent restructuring, which would significantly diminish the quality of instruction next year. Our collective efforts will help create a special Back to School bash on July 20th, where all collected supplies will be distributed at Tanger Outlets to the students in need. How You Can Help: 1.
