The bright minds of Cozine Elementary School (plus two graduates from our Readers in Training program) share stories on why reading is important to them. Spread the Word Nevada is a children’s lit-er-acy non-profit, 501 (C)(3) cor-po-ra-tion, ded-i-cated to advanc-ing early child-hood lit-er-acy by plac-ing books into the hands and homes of chil-dren within Nevada’s at-risk, low income com-mu-ni-ties. While devel-op-ing a love of read-ing, these libraries pro-mote future aca-d-e-mic achieve-ment and self-confidence, which impacts life-long success. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has dis-trib-uted more than 7 mil-lion gen-tly used and new books to more than 830,000 low-income youth in Nevada.

A Vision Beyond Lenses When Afolabi Ajimoti started More Than Lenses Edu., it was simply about connecting with young minds, sharing creative skills, and letting them see the world through a new lens—one that sparks imagination and opportunity. It was an instinct, an impulse to give back. Over time, though, the mission has grown deeper and more defined. We’ve come to realize that equipping kids from low-income families with skills in media and art is only one part of the equation. Without access to quality education, these talents can only take them so far.
