Exactly. This trend is observable across various teams, including FC Barcelona (I am a huge fan), where erstwhile luminaries like Xavi, Iniesta, and Deco displayed a penchant for audacious strikes from distance. Contrastingly, the current crop of players, typified by Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, and Gavi, seems less inclined towards such ventures. This reluctance to attempt long shots may stem from a prevailing ethos prioritizing methodical buildup play and meticulous execution over spontaneity and risk-taking. In essence, modern football seems to favor a more controlled approach, where players are encouraged to seek optimal scoring opportunities rather than opt for speculative efforts from afar. Regrettably, this trend may intensify in the future, as tactical frameworks become increasingly rigid and players are groomed to adhere strictly to predefined strategies. However, it's crucial to recognize the inherent value of experimentation and unpredictability in football—a sentiment encapsulated in the adage, "If you don't shoot, you will never be able to know how much the goalkeeper can take." Thus, striking a balance between tactical discipline and creative expression remains imperative in preserving the essence of the beautiful game. Anyways Great Post!!!
"I could hear people saying: 'don't shoot, don't shoot!' ??? But I didn't come this far in my career to have young players tell me when to shoot," said Vincent Kompany after the Man City vs Leicester game in May 2019, where his long-distance goal won them the Premier League title. Now, you might remember that Kompany moment as an iconic long shot ??, but looking at the long shots data from recent seasons, we might never witness such a moment again. It's revealed that top teams in Europe tend to avoid long-distance shots more often, as you can see from the viz here. ?? This post was inspired by the discussions I've had with Ryan B. and Patrick Geraghty in my previous post.

Such brilliant words of advice - be you and lean into the bits that make you, you. Don’t take yourself too seriously. All work experiences are worthwhile and you learn from them - that’s how you learn to graft and find out about people. Worth a listen.
"Finally, the one last thing I've learned, and take this above all others, do not pin your emotions to the England football team..." Say hello to our newest Honorary Graduate Josh Widdicombe ??

I really enjoyed writing this article about the Texas Christian University football team! The Big 12 conference is hosting its football media days ahead of another exciting season! Coach Sonny Dykes talked to the media about what he sees in this year’s team and what he has learned in his role as head coach for the last two seasons. ?????????????? ???????????? - ?????????????????????? As the African market is on the rise and multiple European top clubs are investing in that field, it's logical that numerous new academies/projects are found lately. For me it's not always easy to see behind the curtains and truly understand the project's intentions, how the players are treated,... That's why I appreciate projects like the Zambian club "Central City", which follows a different approach than other academies. Realistically, not every player will succeed in the football business, which is the reason why education is crucial for African talents. Central City tries to support their players in that aspect, e.g. securing scholarships for them. Will be interesting to follow -> Lusaka, Zambia ????! #football #scouting #Africa

Some will say they shouldn’t have even got this far. Others will say they came agonisingly close. Both are probably correct. Whatever your view, I feel Gareth Southgate pulled off a masterstroke – against all the odds - again. It can be similar in business - no one seems to be satisfied. Everyone is criticising you. If you run your own business you have to do what you feel is right. Clearly you can be answerable to a board, to shareholders, but if you’re the CEO, you need to make the difficult decisions – and not be too concerned with the FLACK others will throw at you. You need to have a thick skin. To paint Southgate as a failure after four tournaments of outstanding success, is a tad unfair. But as in business, football can be unfair. Southgate is unlikely to be given the credit he deserves. And as a business leader, expecting credit for your actions can be a thankless task. www.johnstapleton.eu

???? Recently, Josh sat down with Rising Ballers to share his story about coming through the Arsenal academy, facing tough decisions, and ultimately choosing to leave the club for Brentford when they were still in the Championship. That decision wasn’t easy. Imagine being offered a new contract by Arsenal, a club you’ve been with for 10 years, but feeling that your future lies elsewhere. It took incredible courage and clarity to make the move to Brentford, a decision that’s proven to be a key moment in his career, as we all know where Brentford are now. But what stood out in Josh’s interview was how important it was to have a solid support system around him—family, close friends, and mentors who truly had his best interest at heart. Josh’s journey is a reminder that we all need people in our corner, especially when faced with life-changing decisions. Surround yourself with those who uplift you, offer wisdom, and support your dreams, even if it means making the tough calls! Josh also opened up about dealing with multiple long-term injuries. It’s one of the hardest things an athlete can go through, physically and mentally. There were moments where the setbacks seemed never-ending, but Josh’s resilience never wavered. Through it all, he leaned on his support system and found strength in talking to the people closest to him. It’s easy to feel alone in tough times, but speaking up and sharing the burden can make all the difference. And lastly, through every challenge, Josh has held onto his faith. There’s something powerful in trusting God’s plan, even when the path feels uncertain. Believing that every step, even the difficult ones, serves a purpose has helped him stay grounded and motivated. Josh’s story is bigger than football. It’s about having faith, staying grounded, and knowing that with the right people around you, you can overcome any obstacle and make the right choices for your future. ???? #StayFocused #TrustTheProcess #SupportSystem #Faith #JoshDaSilva #RisingBallers #FamilyFirst #Bees #BrentfordFC #Brentford https://lnkd.in/ewdjCVRK

The fine margins between success and failure. Two weeks ago, Gareth Southgate was minutes from losing his job, facing massive criticism, and almost becoming a national villain. His career was on the brink of disaster… but then something incredible happened. Jude Bellingham stepped up. It happened again last night when Ollie Watkins stepped up in the dying minutes to win the game and send them to the finals. Now, Southgate is on the edge of legendary status. If his team wins against Spain in the final, they'll be building statues of him, and "Gareth" will be the top baby's name in England for the next 20 years. Southgate’s journey is a jaw-dropping reminder of how thin the line between success and failure can be. In our careers, we face similar high-stakes moments. We could be one decision away from epic success or major setbacks. Here’s what we can learn from Southgate's epic comeback: Stay Resilient: Bounce back stronger from every setback. Seize Opportunities: Step up when it matters the most. Aim for Greatness: Success often lies just beyond your biggest challenges. #Leadership #Success #Resilience #Inspiration #Business #LifeLessons https://lnkd.in/dNPJBRep
