We’re in an execution drive to build the machine that demonstrates fusion’s commercial viability, and we picked the path that’ll do that fastest using proven science. "Fusion energy holds immense potential as a clean and abundant source of power, but a lot of work remains to be done. Engineers and scientists at SLAC are building a new state-of-the-art instrument to further our understanding of fusion energy among many other capabilities. This instrument will be coupled with LCLS, SLAC’s X-ray free-electron laser or XFEL. XFELs serve as a very high-speed camera to look at atomic interactions. Combining this X-ray laser with an instrument that can, for a brief instant, produce extremely high pressures and temperatures will allow scientists to observe and analyze the behavior of matter under extreme conditions, such as those encountered within fusion devices for clean energy. Fusion energy research has the potential to advance our understanding of this clean energy source, and will pave the way for future advancements in sustainable power generation! Fusion energy is key to solving our current climate crisis. So it’s critical that the fusion industry works together to build public trust. To do that, we must standardize how we evaluate progress. Every fusion concept naturally passes milestones that show it has a viable source of fusion energy and it can commercialize that fusion energy. To help motivate our industry to work together toward this common good, I’ve detailed the standardized approach we use internally to track the ecosystem. Hopefully this is helpful to investors, press, regulators, and the public to use to evaluate real progress. Further, CFS commits to focusing on? company milestone announcements that are: ? Easy to measure and interpret ? Peer reviewed, as the norm ? Shared and celebrated publicly ? Easy to understand The path to fusion is paved with extraordinary potential for climate and energy, and while we race against time to make fusion a reality we must also get it right.
