CCC's Dibert food pantry, in partnership with Feed More, delivered 35 food bags to residents of Imperial Plaza Senior Living Community. They went door to door visiting residents in three buildings, sharing not just food but also smiles, and a few warm hugs. ?? We are already planning our next visit!

We have a story in the latest issue of Neighbourhood Media detailing all the work we do via Addison Road Food Pantry Camperdown, our low-cost grocery store which makes use of rescued, donated and purchased food to support the local community and its needs. The story (link below) shows how we help feed people from Mission Australia's Common Ground housing project and the nearby Johanna O’Dea Court, a multi-storey NSW Family and Community Services apartment block. It also explains how we serve people living on a tight budget in Camperdown and Glebe, as well as people who come to the pantry from right across the City of Sydney LGA. Most of all, the story is a celebration of our monthly Addi Road 'Let's Get Cooking' sessions (AKA "the Cook-Up"), which offers 260 free hot meals for Mission Australia and Joanna O'Dea residents, as well as those shopping at our Addi Road Food Pantry Camperdown. These sessions involve a monthly cooking demo inside the Common Ground building. Food literacy is the ultimate goal behind Addi Road's Let's Get Cooking program. As well as simply providing a free hot meal (and dessert) each month, we look at helping people to shop AND cook with often very limited funds. Each month there are easy recipes on offer (and ready to be tasted) along extra tips for stocking people's kitchen cupboards; a list of essentials to facilitate simple, inexpensive and nutritious recipes that will match whatever Addi Road Food Pantry might have in stock. It's about building an integrated food ecology for people battling. With a few extra special ingredients over a shared meal as the community comes together: camaraderie and connection. + #Addiroad #cityofsydney #foodrelief #foodjustice #housing #inequality #Camperdown #Glebe #MissionAustralia #homeless #battling #costofliving #poverty #resilience #mentalhealth #wellbeing #nutrition #diet #charity #community #freemeals #cookingworkshop #volunteers #caring #education #connection #letsgetcooking #neighbourhoodmedia https://lnkd.in/gs7vVEvM

In response to food insecurity in the Woodhill community during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharon Stone and former FCPS colleagues created the Woodhill International Market. The initiative offers bi-weekly grocery "shares", providing fresh produce on a sliding scale from $15 to $40. Families pay what they can afford, ensuring access to nutritious food regardless of financial situation. The program helps ease the burden of food costs while supporting community wellness. Filmed and edited by me!

Non sibi, sed suis While resources are provided for food on-campus, there are still segments of students that experience difficulties with accessing food. As a result, a trio of students formed Students Against Food Insecurity (SAFI), which has partnered with various organizations and departments to distribute over 3,500 pounds of food to the Tulane community. Learn more about the efforts and positive changes SAFI has brought to Uptown. ??: bit.ly/4clvvgz

A brilliant report from Nourish Scotland on why public diners are a 'classic public health intervention'. So much to unpick in this report with great examples of models that have worked in the UK (British Restaurants) as well as Hawker Centres in Singapore and Milk Kitchens in Poland. There are plenty more examples, some are state supported and others that are private but there is so much evidence out there that social eating, at scale, can have a positive impact on our physical and emotional health. ?? Popular Restaurants in Brazil - seeks to de-stigmatise food poverty with a pub like atmosphere - https://lnkd.in/edyjpbB4 ?? Absalon in Copenhagen focuses on social cohesion - https://lnkd.in/ecj7373J ?? ??????The public diners report is here! We have public transport, public parks, public libraries, even public wifi…the time has come for public diners. This report makes the case for a new piece of public infrastructure: state supported, affordable restaurants serving healthy, tasty food to the general public. One of the things I love most about working in libraries is how we continually find creative ways to connect with our communities. This January, Southern Pines Public Library is kicking off the year with a fantastic partnership with a local restaurant, Embers BBQ. Library cardholders can enjoy 20% off their total dine-in or carry-out order just by showing their card! How great is that?! This isn’t just about a discount—it’s a reminder of how libraries are so much more than books. We’re about building relationships, supporting local businesses, and enriching lives in unexpected ways. Partnerships like this highlight the power of collaboration and the unique role libraries play in weaving together the fabric of a community. It’s exciting to start the year by offering something that brings value and showcases the library as a cornerstone of connection and support. Here’s to a 2025 filled with even more partnerships, opportunities, and stories to share! #PublicLibraries #ILoveSPPL #SouthernPinesNC #LibraryPartnerships #Libraries #communitypartners
