Committee for Economic Development (CED) hosted an insightful webinar on maximizing the impact of federal investments from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the CHIPS and Science Act. The discussion tackled critical challenges like workforce shortages, supply chain issues, and complex permitting processes that affect state and local implementation. One of the key takeaways was the need for collaboration across federal, state, and local levels to navigate regulatory hurdles and optimize infrastructure funding. With 39% of construction companies reporting labor shortages, we explored potential solutions such as standardized permitting, skills training, and even the role of generative AI to improve efficiency and transparency. Energy infrastructure also remains a priority. As AI demands grow, we’re facing capacity challenges with the electric grid, and the conversation highlighted the increasing importance of nuclear energy in addressing these needs sustainably.
