The Dilemma of Seniority: Knowledge vs. Implementation Recently, while interviewing candidates for a Senior Frontend Engineer role, I presented a challenge around infinite scrolling which is popular concept in FE challenges. ?? One candidate implemented the solution using a popular library in React. It worked well, but when asked about its internal working, they couldn't explain much beyond the documentation. ?? Another candidate built it from scratch using JavaScript and the Intersection Observer API, without relying on any library. While they missed some edge cases, their approach showed a deep understanding of the core logic. This got me thinking—when hiring for a senior role, what truly matters more? ?? A polished solution using a library but without deep knowledge of its internals? ?? A self-built approach demonstrating strong fundamentals, even if not perfect? In this scenario, whom do you think I would have preferred for the role? And more importantly, who would you have chosen? #frontend #interview #learnings

Posting this on behalf of someone I know, and it's an inspiring story about hiring decisions: They recently shared how they ended up hiring someone after sending them a rejection email! Back in March, they were hiring for a Junior Frontend Engineer role and had the tough job of narrowing down twelve great candidates. Only one could be hired, and the decision wasn’t easy. As part of the process, they sent polite rejection emails to those who didn’t make it. Normally, they’d get a few responses asking for feedback, which they’re always happy to provide. But one candidate stood out, not because they asked for anything, but because of how graciously they responded. Even though this person was in the top two and didn’t get the job, they sent a heartfelt note thanking the team for the opportunity and wishing them success. That simple, kind gesture stayed with them. A few weeks later, even though the team wasn’t quite ready to hire another person, they followed their gut and offered that candidate the job on the spot. Now, 8 months later, they couldn’t be happier with their decision. This person has become an invaluable part of the team. It’s not to say rejected candidates have to respond or that they expect replies, but it just goes to show how a sincere and thoughtful response can leave a lasting impression! #HiringStory #JobSearch #CareerTips #RecruitmentSuccess #HiringJourney #HiringProcess #CandidateExperience #JobOpportunities #CareerGrowth #JobHunt #GratitudeInAction #SuccessStory #ProfessionalGrowth #CareerInspiration #HiringNow #JobSeekerTips #InterviewTips #CareerDevelopment #MotivationMonday #LinkedInCommunity #WorkplaceStories #HiringDecisions #JobInterview #CareerMoves #HiringTrends #EmployeeSpotlight #TeamBuilding #JobSearchJourney #PositiveMindset #CareerAdvancement #WorkplaceCulture #InterviewProcess

Senior Software Engineer wanted! Hey everyone, we’re hiring at Big Tech?? and, of course, we’re looking for a very “special” kind of developer. Here’s what you need to land this dream job: 1?? Must solve the world's most complex algorithm in 30 minutes on a whiteboard, using dry-erase markers that are almost out of ink. Your code must look like it was written by a machine with perfect syntax, no typos, and, bonus points if you turn the whiteboard into a full-blown Picasso. 2?? At least 17 years of experience in a language that’s been out for only 5 years. Yes, we’re looking for time travelers. ?? 3?? Be an expert in EVERY framework. React? Of course. Vue? Definitely. Angular? Absolutely. Oh, and why not throw in Svelte, Solid, Ember, Backbone, and that obscure one we’ll ask about just to see you sweat. 4?? 100-step interview process: First, an HR chat, then 4 technical screens with completely different teams who will definitely not ask the same questions. After that, a full day of coding tests and the infamous “culture fit” interview where we’ll ask about your spirit animal and favorite pizza toppings. ?? (Hint: It's Hawaiian.) 5?? Must love meetings: If you're the type who likes uninterrupted coding, sorry, this isn't the place for you. We’re firm believers in "collaboration"—which means back-to-back meetings that will ensure you only code between 2:00 am and 4:00 am. But hey, if you survive this marathon, you’ll get to work on... drumroll... probably some minor bug fixes in an over-engineered system written in 2003. ?? If all of this sounds like your cup of tea—or you just love jumping through flaming hoops—please apply! Just be sure to have your coding algorithm tattooed on your arm before showing up. Good luck, you'll need it! ?? #Hiring #TechJobs #DeveloperLife #WhiteboardWarriors #CodeSweatAndTears #InterviewMadness
