Building, championing and cheerleading women in business is where I find my joy, purpose, passion, my reason why. Three years ago, I became an Olympia's Leaders Advisor with the Olympia Snowe Women's Leadership Institute because I was drawn to their mission: to raise the confidence and aspirations of high school girls by helping them develop the skills required to be leaders in their lives, families, careers, and communities. The stark reality? Girls lose confidence 3.5 times faster than boys during the transition from middle to high school. This erosion of self-belief often leads to them abandoning sports, doubting their abilities in STEM fields, and shying away from leadership roles. The Institute's three-year, evidence-based program resonated deeply with me: ?? Grade 10 - My values: What do I believe? ?? Grade 11 - My voice: How do I communicate? ?? Grade 12 - My vision: What does my future hold? But the impact goes far beyond this framework. For three years, I've had the privilege of mentoring five extraordinary young women. Yesterday, we gathered with 600+ students from across the state. The collective energy and determination of these future leaders was nothing short of awe-inspiring. As the day concluded, 300+ adults - volunteers and Institute staff - formed a circle around the girls, arms raised high. This powerful gesture symbolized the unwavering support network surrounding these young women - ready to lift them up, listen, and champion their dreams. This experience has transformed not only the amazing young women I have gotten to know over these past three years and the other young women in the program but also me. It's a testament to the ripple effect of empowering the next generation of women leaders. #leadership

A lack of sponsorship is keeping women from advancing into senior leadership roles. According to Helen Tubb (she/her) at the just concluded #rlsummit2024, “91% leaders agree that #sponsorship is instrumental to advancing women’s careers compared to mentoring”. However, it’s no longer news that women are over-mentored and under-sponsored and this gap widens as they rise up in leadership.
