ENERGY ? Decarbonisation and energy security considerations are driving policymakers to increase their focus on developing carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) value chains. Projects and ventures proliferate in the UK, Italy and the Netherlands, but it can be hard for market players to keep apace in such a rapidly evolving regulatory framework. Again, we are looking for strong teams in these two challenge areas (Green Cooling & Carbon Negative Buildings) - that are ready to pilot new approaches to change business as usual. Take a look at the documents and see if your approach applies and let us know if you have questions. Part of our job is to help de-risk new thinking and new approaches that can overcome existing barriers to scalability and make an impact for NYS. Proving that you can overcome these barriers and scale your approach in NYS, has relevance across the world.

The main insight I shared during the interview underscores the necessity of moving beyond a simplistic divestment approach. ???? It's imperative for financial institutions to play a proactive role in facilitating the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy activities, safeguarding both their ongoing relevance and the well-being of the planet. This entails pushing traditional fossil energy companies towards sustainable activities in alignment with regulatory initiatives such as the EU taxonomy, Green Claims, CSRD and SFDR.

This year's symposium, themed “Aspiration to Reality – the Australia and US Experience,” brings together thought leaders and key players from across industries to tackle one of today’s most pressing global challenges: the energy transition. With a focus on innovative thinking, the afternoon sessions will delve into new perspectives, pathways, and solutions for navigating the complexities of transitioning to cleaner, more sustainable energy systems. The event will bring together a diverse group of attendees, including senior business executives, government officials, and representatives from major companies such as Woodside Energy, United Airlines, Chevron, Worley, and government agencies including the Australian Federal Government, South Australia Department of State Development, Invest and Trade Western Australia, and Macquarie. This week U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) hosted a workshop seeking input on the pathways to decarbonizing industries. ??A key fact framing the workshop was that 60% of emissions reduction needed to achieve net-zero in heavy industries by 2050 will come from technologies that don’t yet exist or are in the development pipeline. ?? IEDO announced the launch of a new vision study looking at the barriers, pathways, frameworks and sector-specific solutions to scaling decarbonization in the industrial sector, building on DOE’s industrial decarbonization roadmap and commercial liftoff reports. It was wonderful to join colleagues from across industry, academia, and civil society (including our friends at Great Plains Institute) at the workshop to discuss challenges and solutions that will feed into the study.
