In our strategic planning process, The Collins Foundation staff and trustees recognized that a deep commitment to equity and racial justice is both foundational and aspirational for us. Through nuanced conversations, we recommitted to equity and developed a new statement—in essence, a guide to our community partners about who we are, what we believe, and how we work. Reflecting on an incredible opportunity I was given this weekend… I had the privilege of hosting a consultation for Impact Funding Partners feed insights into the Anti Racisim Observatory for Scotland at the farm and we focused on gathering insights from individuals who identify as BAME and their experiences with systemic racism. This was not just a gathering but a safe space for sharing, learning, and connecting. What stood out to me throughout the consultation was the incredible range of voices in the room. Some participants were people I had met during the RBS Accelerator program, others through horses, workshops, or even through chance encounters that sparked genuine connections. Each of these interactions, no matter how brief, had left a lasting impression and somehow brought us together for this important conversation. One moment that really resonated with me was an amazing young gentleman say: “I drove from Dunfermline today to join this consultation because it wasn’t just about the topic, it was about the person leading it.” This struck a chord because, as someone who doesn’t identify as BAME, I was deeply humbled by the trust placed in me to hold such a space. It was a reminder that meaningful change happens when we see people as individuals first, not just labels or categories. I’m so grateful for the chance to bring people together at the farm, providing not just a space but also childcare to make sure everyone could attend without barriers. It was a powerful experience that reaffirmed something I hold close: leadership takes many forms, and curiosity truly brings clarity. These conversations are where change begins #CommunityBuilding #Leadership #Curiosity #Inclusion #SafeSpaces

Embracing boldness in addressing racial equity is imperative for progress. Timid approaches often fall short of meaningful change, and as an organization, we know we cannot tackle the complexities of racial equity alone. What have you seen and how are you addressing it? https://lnkd.in/eqBEK65q

United Vision for Idaho (UVI), is driven by our dedication to multi-issue organizing and the cultural, social, and political change we need to shore up and create the structural systems to win real improvements in people’s lives. Through groundbreaking initiatives, our achievements speak volumes about the incredible difference we make together. This Idaho founded work represents a groundbreaking effort in the field of organizing to strengthening democratic engagement. After decades of organizing in Idaho, UVI has consistently placed rural organizing at the heart of our efforts, not only shining a national spotlight on these communities but also empowering them in the fight for a more democratic future. In this moment, the role of organizations like UVI are even more vital to our collective wellbeing. Our National Training gets to the heart of the division leading to deepening polarization, rejection of democratic principles spring a gravitation towards authoritarianism to foster dialog and connection across difference, find common ground and value positions that result in respectful conversations that create deeper understanding and sentiment shifts.?We've trained thousands to engage effectively in complex conversations across extreme difference reaching 770,000 people across the US, igniting over 498,000 peer-to-peer conversations critical to reducing polarization and nurturing a culture of understanding that lead to meaningful dialogue and inspire solidarity around democratic values across cultural, social and political identity. Leadership in times of crisis must be inclusive of all regions if we want to build a truly inclusive movement that has the ability to create the structural change necessary for our collective wellbeing. UVI operates in a deep spirit of collaboration, sharing insights and methodologies across a robust network of networks of thought partners and collaborators within the social justice movement, continuously enhancing democratic engagement strategies. UVI plays an important in the social justice and emerging pro-democracy movement born out of decades of organizing amidst the funded and orchestrated anti-democratic and increasingly authoritarian efforts that while once relegated to the people living in states like ours are now the reality of each and everyone of us - just one bill and sympathetic judge away from undoing all the strides that have been made. This work from UVI, a trusted leader in analyzing threats to democracy, we stand as a beacon of hope, fostering unity and offering a vision for a more inclusive and just future that is only possible with each of us doing our daily part to fulfill the promise of an idea that could well elude us if we don't step into the breach and do the hard work now.
