As indicated, developers face spiralling costs when the planning process is unclear on the conditions to secure planning. Sites stall and economic growth is held back. While Government is seeking planning policy reform, there is need for support in the profession to shift a more balanced culture that understands the economic impact on place and infrastructure, from a lack of developement consent.
Been a busy week and been reflecting back on the #PlanforChange launched by Keir Starmer on Thursday. Ralph Blackburn on the front page of Yorkshire Post reflected on what it meant for the region, particularly the commitment to accelerate the approval process and set a target of one hundred and fifty Development Consent Order in this Parliament. Read reflections from The Northern Powerhouse Partnership perspective on why it’s so important for regions like the #Humber, as well as for projects like #NorthernPowerhouseRail. https://lnkd.in/evvnCzxG Vidhya Alakeson OBE Colette Carroll Stephen Church Paul Hirst Anna Delvecchio Jane Healey Brown Joe Dadomo Daniel Cochlin Marcus Phillips Richard Gwilliam Hannah Richmond Simon Bird Jennifer Ellis richard goodfellow Ian Aldous

The Metro Atlanta Chamber put revitalizing downtown, improving public safety and ending homelessness in the city’s core at the top of its agenda in 2025 as downtown sees not only a historic wave of investment but also megawatt events that will shine international spotlights on Georgia’s capital city. The call to support revitalizing downtown into a vibrant, 24-hour community with ample housing comes as Atlanta will play host to the college football national championship in January, World Cup matches in 2026 and several other marquee events in the next five years. The chamber held its 165th annual meeting Thursday at the Georgia Freight Depot, the oldest building in downtown, where the region’s business leaders gathered to discuss key priorities within this plan, which included addressing the city’s unsheltered population and boosting the housing supply. Maryland is taking significant steps to enhance its infrastructure and boost economic growth through a new partnership between MDOT and the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO). The plan focuses on developing the MARC Penn Line corridor, which aims to unlock economic opportunities at six key train stops, creating thousands of new jobs and generating over $800 million in tax revenue over the next 30 years. This initiative will improve transit connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and introduce affordable housing options, fostering vibrant communities where residents can live, work, and play. With plans for expansion, including enhanced services and development around key hubs like Odenton and Bowie State University, Maryland is building a brighter future through smart, transit-oriented growth. #MarylandInfrastructure #MarylandGrowth #EconomicOpportunities #SupportYourCommunity

From Maryland.... "“Under the settlement, the city will also name an ADA Coordinator dedicated to: – maintaining pedestrian rights of way – implement a pedestrian inspection program to monitor accessibility on a 10-year basis – launch a maintenance program to make sure trash and vegetation are cleared from pedestrian areas annually.”[1] In his statement, Mayor Scott provided historic context for the city’s infrastructure; “[a]s is the case in many historic East Coast cities, the challenge posed by our city’s sidewalks and curbs long predates the [ADA] and adequately changing our infrastructure poses a monumental task.”[2] He also voiced his commitment to making changes; “[h]owever, under my administration, we are committed to taking every action necessary to set the city on track to come into compliance with the ADA, and ensure Baltimore is more accessible to our disabled community than ever before.”[3]" https://lnkd.in/g6UDMYKd
