USA TODAY joined us to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate tournament at Minnesota's Royal Golf Club, a course co-designed by none other than Annika Sorenstam and Arnold Palmer. Since its founding, 170 athletes have gone on to play professional golf. This year's tournament featured women from 17 countries. The action across the 54-hole stroke play event had people holding their breath, but we get a thrill from what comes through the guidance and counsel Annika imparts while meeting with players and coaches. One of many examples of how The ANNIKA Foundation is leading the way was the addition of physical therapists to assist players with pre-round stretching and post-round recovery, a rarity at college events. #ANNIKAInter Exponent PR

As I watch Anne Nizzi-Clark and her husband Brent Clark sitting on the edge of their seats in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship, I can barely keep my eyes open. Like them (on a much smaller scale) I spent the weekend supporting my college-athlete. With over 520,000 NCAA athletes, another 83,000 NAIA, and another 60,000 NJCAA athletes there are around 1.3 million parents plus many more supporters actively helping their athlete live out there dream as long as they can. This past weekend, I drove 5 hours each way to watch JP Quigley's spring game against Davidson. It was a long haul, but seeing him, watching him do what he loves, made every mile worth it. And we won 4-0! Being a parent to a college athlete isn't just about showing up for the games – it's about being there for every aspect of their journey, both on and off the field-- every game stuck on the bench, every injury, every late night cramming for an exam after a game, every minute until their sports careers are done. Every little bit of support matters. They feel it and they know that you are there. There are days when I am juggling a dozen things at once-- trying to keep up with work, two other amazing kids and a husband, and trying to figure out how to lose that last 20 pounds. To all the parents out there who are riding this train alongside me, I want to extend my support. Let's keep standing by our kids, celebrating their victories, listening after their losses, and being their biggest fans through their entire journey on and off the court, field, pitch, etc. #athletementalhealth #onrise #collegeathletics #parenting #innovation #linkedinsports #sports #ncaa

Why should your kid play multiple sports growing up? Why not specialize? Well, in a study of Div 1 athletes in US college sports, 88% of them played multiple sports growing up according to the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. This is a concept known as Sports Sampling. It has been shown to reduce injuries in athletes (Carder SL, Giusti NE, Vopat LM, et al.), prevent burnout, and make a better all around athlete.
