Honoring Leo Vinton Butts Leo Vinton Butts was the first African-American graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and the first African-American to play for the UW varsity football team. A World War I veteran and activist, Butts later owned and operated a pharmacy and, in his UW Ph.D. thesis, was one of the first to document the history of African-Americans in pharmacy. When we agree, we don’t need the law—a handshake is as good as a contract, and maybe better. Our leaders negotiate and reach reasonable conclusions. Dispues get worked out. The law is what helps us to live in the same society when we don’t agree. It’s never been more important than now. I’m looking forward to a lively discussion!
