Pauline Ma?tre, the Head of Public Affairs at the Verband der Bahnindustrie in Deutschland (VDB) e.V. (German Railway Industry Association), shares perspectives and the myriad of opportunities the rail sector holds. She says the industry has changed a lot, especially with the use of ?? digital technology. She points out many new job possibilities, not just for engineers but also for people in sales, communication, marketing and more. According to her, the railway industry has something for everyone. One key point is the global nature of the railway sector. Maitre stresses the importance of having gender diverse workforce, explaining that since the rail industry is designing the future of transportation, it should be as diverse as the people who use trains. She encourages young women to study ???? science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects early on and calls for workplaces to support a balanced life for their employees. Maitre emphasizes the need to involve more women in the workforce to fill the shortage of skilled professionals in rail. She believes that by doing this, the industry can benefit from a broader range of talent. She also highlights the advantages of working in rail, such as contributing to ?? climate protection, boosting the economy and connecting people. According to Maitre, the railway industry is an excellent field to be a part of. #SurburbanRailLoop // In a world-first, one of the eight crews operating the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) on the Suburban Rail Loop project will be an all-women team – and more than 600 women have already applied for the job. Nice one, Victoria! The ARA advocates for gender diversity in the rail industry and recently released research aimed at removing the barriers to women’s progression. ? The ARA is also pleased to learn that all four TBMs will be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity, reducing emissions during construction. Greater use of renewable energy sources, together with smart design and materials choices that reduce the embodied emissions of infrastructure assets, are an essential part of decarbonising transport.? ? The Victoria State Government (Victorian Government) has announced that the first four TBMs are now ordered and the first is scheduled for delivery next year.? ? Happy #InternationalWomensDay! To put it simply, water wouldn't have its power without the ongoing contributions of women within our industry – that includes those who are keeping our hydro facilities running, leading major power producers in board rooms across America, elevating our voices in Washington, and much more. However, despite these achievements, recent studies show that women only make up about 30% of our industry. That means that, on #IWD and all year round, we can't just honor women in water power; we must act boldly to reach #genderparity. Through NHA's growing DEI initiatives, we're working to achieve this, but there's more to work to do. A #hydro industry where women can reach their full potential is an industry that benefits us all and strengthens the communities we serve.?
