In September 2024, my former team had the privilege of presenting our paper, “Interim Guideline Development for Public Health Emergencies: The Philippine Experience,” at the 2024 Global Evidence Summit in Prague. This prestigious event brought together leading organizations in evidence-informed decision-making, reinforcing the critical role of collaboration in achieving our shared goal of health for all. As we continue to advance healthcare, international partnerships and the exchange of knowledge remain vital. Together, we have the collective power to shape the future through evidence-based practices and innovation. Tom Cassels , Halle Tecco, MPH, MBA: I'm as concerned as anyone for the next several years; "hold on tight" is all we know now. But as a patriot, I have a problem with the notion that "more voters in our country support greater gender inequality and racial inequality." Because (a) I don't think that's true, and the statistics bear this statement (or rather, they don't bear out yours, Tom); and (b) no matter how many times such a statement gets levied -- pessimistic as it is -- it never comes with a motive. WHY would people prefer greater inequality? What do those who are not in power gain by putting in power people who will not lift them up per se? Without a motive to the contrary, we can only -- indeed, we MUST -- allow ourselves to believe (especially when one writes about "agency") that those who voted in a particular way did so out of some sincerely held belief. It might not be what I would have done, but that doesn't mean that the person who voted for another candidate did so maliciously. We cannot at once advocate for liberal positions and simultaneously inhibit others from acting in a manner contrary to our own preferences, but to do so is by definition illiberal. It is a paradox. As a country we should knock those off.... ???????

RELEASE: The Maryland Department of Health has successfully retained its accreditation. The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) grants accreditation to health departments after fulfilling stringent quality, innovation, and improvement criteria. The Department first received accreditation in 2017, becoming one of the initial 200 health departments to achieve this status since PHAB was established in 2011. Looking forward European Health Forum Gastein and the opportunity to discuss Civil Society engagement and participation. As civil society, how can we ensure that the voices of all communities, especially the most vulnerable, are heard? Nothing for Us, Without us! How can we leverage evidence and amplify researchers' voices amidst infodemics and fake news? What strategies can we employ to engage in policy making and act as boundary spanners? How can we bring policies back to the communities we serve? Transparency, accountability, and impact – these are some of the questions we need to address.

Transboundary partners and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine have co-developed seven principles that are fundamental to enabling equitable research partnerships. The careful co-development process through which the principles were developed has been published in a new paper in?PLOS Global Public Health, co-authored by colleagues from both LVCT HEALTH, a Kenyan healthcare NGO and LSTM. The principles are part of LSTM’s ongoing efforts to improve and undo harmful power structures that perpetuate inequities in global health partnerships. I am honored to have been invited as a participant at the first ever Oral Health Policy Lab in South Africa from 30 to 31 January 2025. This workshop, hosted by the Alliance for a Cavity Free Future (ACFF), will consist of specialists and stakeholders chosen for their knowledge and expertise and informed by evidence, to make a breakthrough on a particular challenge...dental caries. Three principal elements that will be discussed include: assessing the challenges, understanding the barriers and developing innovative approaches to improve outcomes.

We have developed a framework to analyse the characteristics of EU health policy as a political determinant of health (PDoH) - using the European Health Union as an example.
