Looking forward to co-facilitating the event “Interdisciplinary perspectives on practices and interventions in arts and health” on October 31st with my SDU, IOB, MoCS colleagues. Do sign up if interested in the intersection between Arts and Health ?? “traditionally conceived, art and health are two very different human domains, the former regulated by aesthetic considerations and the latter by scientific ones” We bring together a wide array of art-inspired researchers with their distinctive take on the role of art in human health, to discuss questions such as: “Which methods, theories, and strategies constructively integrate these two domains? What are the convergences and significant differences between, on the one hand more performative arts, such as music and dance, and on the other hand, literary arts such as reading, writing and narrative? What is the respective role of embodiment and affectivity in the different artistic interventions? And, finally, what will be the most effective or innovative approaches to art and health in the future?” “Speakers have been invited to engage with these questions from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives – including public health studies, arts and humanities, philosophy, phenomenology, medical anthropology, and cognitive sciences.” https://lnkd.in/dyWAZ9Hm @Simon H?ffding , Sarah Pini , Signe H?jbjerre Larsen , Anthony Fernandez , Peter Stilwell , Susanne Ravn , et al.

Seven years ago, Oxford University Press published its first Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science. In the intervening period, interest in the topic has continued to grow with additional research centers dedicated to the topic, and thousands of additional published articles. So, has the time come to reframe and recalibrate where we go with compassion science? Authors Lynne Reeder of Federation University Australia and Marcela Matos of the University of Coimbra certainly believe so, and in service to the entire community, they "felt it was important to revisit this comprehensive guide and for it to be the basis for identifying future research directions in compassion science." How do we know whether someone is "resilient?" asks University of Notre Dame - Keough School of Global Affairs professor Paul Perrin, Evidence and Learning director at the Pulte Institute. In a recent chapter from the book Resilient Universities, Paul critiques current resilience frameworks, suggesting key aspects of the human experience— emotional well-being, loss, dignity, and worldview—are being overlooked and advocates for a new model that prioritizes those critical factors that are integral to humanity. Read the chapter and learn about the new model Perrin is advocating for, one that prioritizes these essential factors here: https://lnkd.in/gPbJuJn5.

Meet Ghable Bell – She is from Detroit, Michigan, and will be starting the Master of Science in Health Systems Administration program this fall. Q. Why did you choose Georgetown University? A. I chose Georgetown because the master's program has a strong focus on health equity. I wanted to select a program that covered more than the business of healthcare but also addressed how to prioritize the needs of the communities we serve. Q. What advice would you give to others going through the graduate school application process? A. My advice to someone completing their graduate school applications is to be honest with yourself throughout the process. Being genuine helps you remain aligned with your values and goals while allowing your personality to shine in your application. Q. What are you looking forward to the most during your time at Georgetown? A. Because Georgetown has such a diverse student population, I am looking forward to meeting new people and making new connections! Q. What do you enjoy doing during your free time? A. I love music! In my free time, I am usually attending concerts or traveling to see new artists.
