I knew Foxtrot would fail. When they opened rapidly, they sent me a coupon for $25 off anything delivered. I spent $24.95 including delivery and tip. Next week they sent me a "We miss you" email with another $20 coupon. I spent $19.40. They kept doing this and it became clear to me that they had no concept of customer lifetime value. They sold an eclectic, curated assortment at fair prices in premium locations. There was no rational level of turnover that would make this business profitable. It's not the only business that prioritizes growth at all costs. After seeing this from the inside, I see it everywhere.
