Working towards building greener futures for communities across Ireland and further afield, at Mac Zero our focus is clear. We’re continually striving for zero: zero carbon, zero waste, zero delays. ? Our latest projects in Donegal have created healthy, future-proofed learning environments for children and young people in buildings that are highly functional yet sympathetic to the beauty of their surroundings. ??This is why we do what we do?? Providing modern, warm, learning environments for children to thrive is our role, and to deliver buildings of the highest quality, on time and within budget is our responsibility ? MILFORD: Just last week, children moved into a specialist SEN building that was manufactured and installed by our team in Milford’s Scoil Mhuire. Low carbon in-operation, the new block stretches over 270sqm, offering a bespoke space for children with additional needs.? ? MOVILLE: 80 kilometers away in northeast Donegal, Moville Community College is now benefitting from an additional 230 sqm modular classroom block designed and manufactured by the team at Mac Zero.?Situated on scenic North East Inishowen, the modular building was finished with flashes of blue hues, inspired by the adjacent Lough Foyle. ? Principal of Moville Community College, Caroline Doherty, adds: "I am delighted with the completion of the standalone classroom block Mac Zero delivered for our school in just over four months. Mac Zero completed this project in a quick timeframe, ensuring that we now have a fully operational, sustainable, airtight, and futureproofed building that’s delivering a healthy, learning environment for our students.” #greenbuildingpractices #movetozero #sustainablebuildings #modularbuildings #educationbuildings #lowcarbon #modernmethodsofconstruction #futureproofing ?

Detroit made history as the first US city to give communities a voice in major development projects through its Community Benefits Ordinance. But after 8 years, what have we learned? New analysis reveals both promising outcomes and critical areas for improvement in this groundbreaking policy approach. Findings show that while the CBO has successfully brought communities to the negotiating table, challenges remain in ensuring true representation and enforcement of agreements. The stakes are high. As clean energy projects proliferate nationwide, getting community benefits frameworks right is critical for an equitable transition. Bryan Frierson, the Assistant Public Information Officer at the Passaic Valley Water Commission, shares the importance of involving the community in water projects. "One?of?the?many?projects?we're?doing?is?a?giant?light?service?line?replacement?program?where?we're?removing?thousands?of?led?service?lines?from?the?cities?of?Patterson,?Passaic,?Clifton,?and?the?borough?of?Prospect?Park.?Now?we've?had?some?pushback?from?residents. Again,?this?goes?back?to?building?trust,?right? So?basically?residents?in?Patterson?and?Passaic?were?not?comfortable?totally?letting?people?in?because?they?don't?look?like?them. I?suggested,?all?right,?well,?if?I'm?for,?I?know?what?the?city's?like,?I?would?feel?more?comfortable?if?there?was?someone?at?my?door?that?looks?like?me. And?that's?no?fault?of?their?own.?It's?just?the?society?that?we?live?in.?And?that's?been?actually?working. We?started?doing?that,?implementing?that,?sending?people?that?are?actually?from?the?neighborhood?to?go?knock?on?doors,?and?it's?been?working. So?we're?getting?better?feedback?and?people?are?actually?letting?our?people?in?to?inspect?their?waterline?and?whatnot." This is an example of doing DEI work in your local municipality with intention.
