Indeed, as the world’s population increases, the demand for water would increase. At present, not only is water for human consumption in high demands, water for agriculture, industries and even cooling computer servers is on the rise. Humans would would continue to draw from underground water, the consequences notwithstanding. We can begin to tackle this challenge by: 1. Conserving water: the world experiences a lot waste of food and fresh clean water. The water available to us need to be preserved. Waste need to be cut down to its minimum. 2. Curtailing water pollution: water pollution is a serious problem in the world today. Fresh water sources are contaminated by pollutants such as oil spill, bacteria and toxic waste from industries. Polluted water is unsuitable for human use and consumption. Once we are able to curtail water pollution, we would begin to address the problem of water scarcity in the future. 3. Sustainable use of water: though there is a high demand for water, the manner and rate of underground water being pumped out is alarming. There is need for the sustainable use of underground water as well as other bodies of freshwater. The water on earth has to be used in such a way that the next generation won’t resent us for what we’d leave for them. 4. Desalination: this is the romoval of salt from saltwater. Though it is a very expensive process and the technology we have on it isn’t so advanced, I believe investments should be made in desalination processes. Over 97% of the Earth’s water is saltwater, there’s so much water around us that we cannot use or consume. The desalination of these water would make available, fresh water for consumption and use in industry. To however gain from this, we need to first improve on its technology. I made a post on X about this few weeks ago. Check it out here ???? https://lnkd.in/gqUeHb-U

Water is one of the critical resources in supporting the world population. I remember a presentation about 10 years ago from University of East Anglia talking about the scale of over abstraction in some critical parts of the world. With climate change exacerbating this problem we need to think about long-term sustainability and the inequitable impacts of trade when we import this water to developed nations from already water scarce parts of the world.

Water is essential to life. We know our current use and management of water is not sustainable. This post puts into the perspective the challenges we face into the future - at a global level.

The #GRACE and #GRACE-FO satellite missions have successfully demonstrated global #groundwater monitoring. With the urgency to operationally monitor more precisely groundwater at finer temporal and spatial scales to support water management applications, future #esa #NGGM and #esa #nasa #MAGIC missions are even more imperative.

Cherry Holmes, be cautious when quoting science from the UN. According to recent discoveries, a massive Ocean of Water spans the continents below our feet. So, it may not be correct at all. As every Hawaiian knows, ancient navigators and explorers found America, Latin America, and even Antarctica before Columbus. Our times are amazing but confusing because knowledge from less than a year ago has evolved from a Nobel Peace Prize breakthrough to an incorrect fact. I catch myself daily in my research finding new information like the 12000 years old civilization discovered in Turkey that is causing many to revise the whole historical civilization of humanity evolving from Mesopotamia 6000 years ago to a bit further north from 9500 to 12,000 years ago or 9500 BCE. G?bekli Tepe (Turkish: [??bec?li te?pe], 'Potbelly Hill'; Kurdish: Girê Mirazan or Xirabre?kê, 'Wish Hill') is a Neolithic archaeological site in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. During the Pre-Pottery Neolithic, the settlement was inhabited from c. 9500 to at least 8000 BCE. The pictures of the sites and the ancient knowledge thought to have come from the Mesopotamians seem to be present with other artifacts that put things back in perspective. What is important is that we consider our actions and their consequences. But we can never talk in absolute. Science has no proof that we shifted the axis of the earth. Jah bless. Water is vitally important, and how we use it is too, it is not an unlimited resource. Watch this video for a perspective on ground water.
