The landmark victory in Switzerland's climate case goes to show how the elder generation can and should be an active part of the struggle against climate crisis both in developed countries and especially in a developing nation like ours. Remember, it's only we, the people, who can bring about a change in the way our system and economy and push it toward sustainability and justice. Addressing climate issues around the world requires a multifaceted approach: 1. Reduce Emissions: Transition to renewable energy sources and enhance energy efficiency. 2. Reforestation: Restore forests to absorb carbon dioxide and also protect biodiversity. 3. Sustainable Agriculture: Implement practices that conserve water and soil while increasing resilience. 4. Adaptation Strategies: Develop infrastructure and policies to manage floods, droughts, and wildfires. 5. Community Engagement: Involve local populations in decision-making for sustainable practices. 6. Global Cooperation: Foster international agreements to ensure collective action against climate change. Together, these strategies can mitigate and adapt to climate challenges. The International Climate Initiative's (IKI) Country Call Brazil is inviting submissions to an ideas competition that precedes funding or commissioning within the framework of the country call. Participation in the ideas competition is open to German and international grant recipients, as well as to implementing organisations of the German Federal Government.?Interested implementing organisations are invited to submit a project outline responding to one of three thematic priorities (details in the link below): 1: Decarbonisation of emission-intensive industrial sectors? 2: Combating deforestation in the Brazilian biomes Cerrado, Caatinga, Pantanal, Atlantic Rainforest and Pampa? 3: Climate change adaptation in vulnerable urban territories: Cooperating with communities and strengthening local governments? The deadline for submitting project outlines for the ideas competition is 28 May 2024, 4 p.m. (CET). One project per thematic priority will be selected. Today, three noteworthy climate change case rulings ?? were concluded before the European Court of Human Rights, one of which resulted in a victory for the claimant – a Swiss ???? association of elderly women. According to the Court, Switzerland has been found in violation of the Convention by failing to implement measures to mitigate the effects of global warming ???on the living conditions and health of the affected group. ??Should European states worry now that their efforts might come under scrutiny?
